Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Recreation Aide to join our team at Tyndall Seniors Village-Brampton, in providing engaging and supportive activities for residents in a long-term care home setting. The ideal candidate will have a passion for enhancing the quality of life for seniors and individuals with disabilities through meaningful recreational, leisure and wellness programs. This role offers an opportunity to make a positive impact while working in a caring and team-oriented setting.

Prior experience in senior care, dementia care, or caregiving is highly valued.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and facilitate recreational activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities

Assist residents with participation in group and individual activities, ensuring safety and engagement

Support residents with mobility, communication, and daily needs during activities

Foster a friendly and inclusive environment that promotes socialization and well-being

Collaborate with care staff to coordinate activity schedules and adapt programs as needed

Monitor residents’ responses to activities and report any concerns or changes in condition

Maintain cleanliness and organization of activity areas and supplies The Recreation Aide will enhance the effective management and quality of nursing care and delivery in keeping with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, O. Reg. 246/22, and the policies and procedures of Sharon Village Care Homes.

The Recreation Aide is responsible to ensure persons served receive support, care, and services in keeping with his/her needs and choices and are carried out in accordance with the FLTCA, 2021 & O. Reg 246/22 and other legislative requirements,





The Recreation Aide will support and demonstrate Tyndall's mission, vision, and values and make every effort to ensure that the Resident Bill of Rights provisions are practiced without exception.

The Recreation Aide shall serve as a coach and mentor to all employees of the home, leading by example to inspire and motivate every individual to recognize the value they bring to the lives of persons served, and their families.

Accountable to: Recreation Manager

Key Priorities

 Responsible for all aspects of recreation programs

 Assist in the decorating and any other preparation for programs

 Facilitates, supervises, and assists persons served to and from programs

 Participate in planning 1:1, small and large group activities, and special events

 Evaluate new and/or modified programs according to resident needs.

 Supervises community outings as planned and according to resident needs.

 Complete documentation related to programming including but not limited to assessment, attendance, progress notes, care plans, and quarterly reviews as directed by the Therapeutic Recreation Manager.

 Participates in Restorative Care Programs

 Provides input in evaluating the effectiveness of programs

 Participate in the homes Continuous Quality Improvement Program

 Support and effectively utilize volunteer resources in the provision of programs.





 Ensure effective communication with all residents, family members, staff, and volunteers

 Support Pastoral Care Services, Palliative Care, Restorative Care and the activities of the

Resident’s Council as directed by the Therapeutic Recreation Manager

 Participate in departmental meetings, home-specific committees, and multidisciplinary care conferences when required.

 Notes any changes in resident’s condition and reports to RN/RPN

 Assists with Dining Room duties as assigned.

 Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Experience working in assisted living, nursing homes, or with seniors preferred

Knowledge of dementia care, senior care, or working with individuals with disabilities is a plus

Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and team members

Compassionate attitude with a genuine interest in caregiving and enhancing residents’ quality of life

Ability to be patient, flexible, and attentive to residents’ needs

Prior experience in caregiving or recreational programming is advantageous but not required; training will be provided

Must be able to work well within a team environment and demonstrate reliability

 Must have a post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies,

Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, or Gerontology from an Ontario post-secondary institution or a postsecondary diploma, degree or certificate from another jurisdiction that is considered equivalent,

OR

 Where there is reasonable determination the person has the appropriate skills, knowledge, and experience to fulfill the role.
