LEAD ENVIRONMENT ARTIST Permanent – Full-Time
Eidos Montréal is seeking a talented, self‑motivated Lead Environment Artist to collaborate with a growing development team on a cross‑platform RPG built in Unreal Engine 5. The Lead Environment Artist is responsible for creating visually compelling environments, providing hands‑on artistic leadership, and mentoring a team of Environment Artists. This role blends artistic excellence, leadership, and strong cross‑discipline collaboration. This position is offered onsite or in a hybrid capacity at Eidos Montréal.
What you will do
Act as direct manager and mentor for Workplace Artists
Work closely with the Art Director, Technical Artists, Level Designers, and Environment Artists to meet or exceed visual targets
Efficiently model, UV map, bake, and create materials within a PBR pipeline, and assemble assets in Unreal Engine 5
Create a wide range of high‑quality environment art assets, including props, interiors, exteriors, and structural elements
Lead worldbuilding efforts, including terrain and foliage, using Unreal Engine 5
What you bring
5+ years of experience in the game industry
Strong technical expertise with a deep understanding of modeling, lighting, and surfacing
Expert knowledge of Maya or similar 3D modeling software
Strong understanding of PBR texture and material pipelines
Passion for collaboration and mentoring junior artists
Excellent communication skills and a highly organized work approach
Solid understanding of performant, visually appealing level construction and modular assembly techniques in Unreal Engine
Portfolio Requirements
A web‑based portfolio demonstrating a range of high‑quality 3D rendered work and 2D texture art
Examples of lit interior and exterior environments
A mix of hard‑surface and organic models
Samples from previous professional industry work
Even better if you have
Knowledge of architecture, engineering fundamentals, and construction methods
Strong understanding of color theory
Familiarity with Houdini
Solid grasp of visual composition principlesPassion for RPGs, science fiction, and tabletop games
