Registered Clinical Counsellor
Established Referral Stream | Supportive Team | Opportunity to Grow Your Practice
Sandstone Counselling is looking for a Registered Clinical Counsellor to join our growing group practice in Nanaimo, BC.
We are a growing counselling clinic serving individuals and couples with a variety of concerns, including trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, anxiety, burnout, chronic pain and health conditions, relationship difficulties, major life transitions, and concerns affecting first responders and their families.
The ideal candidate will bring their own clinical strengths and areas of interest while complementing the services currently offered by our team. We are particularly interested in a therapist who is open to working with couples and/or is trained in EMDR or willing to pursue recognized EMDR training.
This opportunity is best suited to a clinician who wants to establish and grow their clinical practice within a supportive group setting. Sandstone Counselling provides referrals, marketing, administrative systems and an established professional presence, while the clinician brings consistency, availability and a willingness to actively develop and maintain their caseload over time.
As with any developing practice, a consistent caseload takes time to build. This position may be particularly well suited to someone beginning private practice, adding private-practice work alongside another role or looking to transition gradually into an established group-practice environment.
Who This Role Is Best For
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Want to establish and grow your clinical practice within a supportive group setting
- Are willing to maintain regular availability as your caseload develops
- Enjoy working with a varied client population
- Provide warm, ethical and evidence-informed counselling
- Are interested in working with individuals, couples or both
- Are EMDR trained or willing to pursue recognized EMDR training (mentoring offered to those who are new to EMDR and willing to train)
- Value independence while also appreciating support and collaboration
- Are dependable, flexible and responsive
- Are open to feedback and continued professional development
- Take an active role in developing your practice and supporting continuity of client care
- Are looking for a longer-term qualified home rather than a temporary position
Experience working with couples or formal training in a recognized couples therapy approach, such as Gottman Method or Emotionally Focused Therapy, would be an asset but is not required.
Client Focus Areas
Our clinic supports clients experiencing a broad range of concerns, including:

- Grief and loss
- Anxiety and stress
- Burnout and compassion fatigue
- Chronic pain and health-related concerns
- Relationship and attachment concerns
- Couples and marriage challenges

Clinicians are not expected to work with every presenting concern. Referrals are matched as closely as possible with each therapist’s experience, interests and scope of practice.
Time Commitment and Structure
- Part-time independent contractor position (minimum availability of 12 clients weekly)
- Opportunity to gradually develop a consistent weekly caseload
- In-person sessions at our welcoming Nanaimo office
- Evening or weekend availability
- Flexibility and autonomy when creating your schedule
- Best suited to a clinician seeking stability and longer-term qualified growth
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in counselling, counselling psychology or a related field
- Registered or eligible for registration as an RCC with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors
- In good standing with your professional association
