Registered Nurse, Surgical Services - Operating Room at Chilliwack General Hospital, Chilliwack, BC. Chilliwack is located in the Eastern part of the Fraser Valley, surrounded by mountains and a supportive community.
The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 - $59.52 / hour We invite you to apply today to join Fraser Health as a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room. This role provides direct nursing care to patients within the OR according to established standards and policies. The RN assesses patients, plans, implements, and coordinates care, and performs scrubbing and circulating duties as required.
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care of patients. Coordinates and provides nursing care to patients according to physician and anaesthetist orders and in conformance with established standards and hospital policies. Participates in identifying and reducing risk factors that may impact the patient and/or health care team.
Modifies care as needs change. Initiates immediate treatment, such as applying non-invasive monitoring devices if required. Obtains, checks, sets up and positions supplies, instruments and equipment required for surgery ensuring that instruments and equipment are in working order.
Follows standardized count policy and provides appropriate documentation. Collects information from a variety of sources using skills of observation, communication and physical assessment to enable the provision of appropriate nursing care.
Participates in quality improvement activities and research by identifying patient care issues and collecting data.
Participates as an active member on nursing and hospital committees and councils for improvement of patient care and/or work environment. Participates in the orientation and ongoing education of nursing staff and students by providing information and acting as a preceptor and mentor as appropriate. Participates in the evaluation of patient care programs, techniques, standards and procedures by providing feedback about effectiveness and patient care outcomes.
Maintains a safe setting for patients, families and staff by adhering to established safety and emergency practices and procedures. Graduation from an approved School of Nursing. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
One (1) years recent relevant clinical nursing experience in the designated clinical area, and completion of post graduate course work and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate / prescribed technical, therapeutic, and safety interventions. Ability to determine and deal with emergency situations.
Ability to use factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence / evidence-informed practice. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/caregivers, the public, medical staff and members of the interprofessional care team using verbal, written and electronic applications. Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families/caregivers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, and patient advocacy.
Ability to integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problem-solve effectively. Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional care team. Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
