Calgary

Intricate is a Calgary-based regulatory solutions firm for upstream and midstream oil and gas producers across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and BC. We run an integrated model: field measurement and emissions services, regulatory and technical consulting, and our own compliance software. Most firms hand operators one piece of the puzzle. We connect the field data to the analysis to the software, which closes the gaps where compliance problems hide. Our consultants work at the center of that model.

The role combines deep measurement and instrumentation work with real consulting responsibility. You'll diagnose measurement problems at the device and data level, build the business case for fixing them, and communicate the answer directly to clients. Technical depth earns the seat at the table. Consulting skill is what makes you effective once you're there.

WHAT THE ROLE IS ABOUT

- Problem identification: working through a client's measurement data, SCADA records, and operations to diagnose what's actually going wrong, not just what they think is going wrong
- Business case development: translating a measurement or instrumentation issue into cost, risk, and compliance terms a client can act on
- Advisory and presentation: communicating findings to client contacts and leadership, in writing and in the room, and defending the recommendation
- Delivery: building structured, defensible analyses that hold up to client and regulator scrutiny
- Growth: over time, opportunity to take on larger pieces of engagements and work more independently with clients, with support from senior consultants

THE MEASUREMENT WORK

- Measurement compliance under AER Directive 017: facility measurement reviews,

single-well and group measurement, proration and allocation analysis, gas‑oil ratio assessments
- Instrumentation and metering: meter selection and sizing, proving and calibration, meter maintenance programs, meter deviation applications, diagnosing measurement error at the device level
- SCADA and measurement data systems: pulling and validating data from SCADA and historians, reconciling field data against reported volumes, identifying where the data pipeline itself is the compliance problem
- Sampling and analysis programs: sample point requirements, analysis frequency, using composition data to defend or correct reported volumes
- Petrinex volumetric analysis, amendments, and reconciliation against field, SCADA, and production accounting records
- Facility schematics: reviewing, correcting, and using schematics as the backbone of measurement compliance assessments
- Field work: site verification, measurement audits, instrumentation walkdowns

BEYOND MEASUREMENT

- You'll get exposure to the wider picture over time, and depth in any of these is an asset: EPAP (Enhanced Production Audit Program) and production accounting controls, Directive 060, and emissions programs including TIER, MSAPR, NPRI, and GHGRP. You'll also work alongside our software team,

and consultants here shape the measurement and automation modules of our platform. None of this is required on day one.

WHAT YOU BRING

- A strong technical foundation in measurement, instrumentation, or a closely related discipline (operations, production accounting, or engineering with real metering exposure)
- Working knowledge of AER Directive 017 and upstream measurement requirements, or the instrumentation background to get there quickly
- Comfort working with SCADA data, historians, or field data systems, or the aptitude to pick it up rapid
- The instinct to identify problems and the discipline to build a case around solving them
- Presentation and communication ability, comfortable advising clients and presenting to their leadership
- Strong analytical skills and comfort building structured analyses in Excel
- A driver's license and willingness to travel to sites periodically

NICE TO HAVE

- Direct experience with Petrinex and production accounting
- EPAP experience, consulting or producer side
- Familiarity with Directive 060, TIER, or MSAPR
- Exposure to Saskatchewan (Directive PNG017, IRIS) or BC (BCER measurement guideline) frameworks
- A relevant technical designation (P.Eng., C.E.T., or similar)
- Prior consulting or producer-side experience

LOCATION

Hybrid role based in Calgary with some time in the field. We're open to strong candidates outside Calgary who bring the right mix of measurement depth and consulting ability. If that's you, apply and tell us where you're based.

Interested? Apply here or reach out directly. We review applications as they come in.
