Home & Haven Supported Living (HHSL) provides 24-hour residential care for children, youth, and adults with developmental disabilities, autism, dual diagnosis, and complex mental health and behavioural needs. We are currently hiring dedicated Overnight Residential Counsellors who are passionate about providing exceptional care while ensuring residents remain safe and supported throughout the night.

Position Summary The Overnight Residential Counsellor plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, calm, and therapeutic environment during overnight hours. This position involves active supervision, responding to behavioural or medical concerns, completing documentation, administering medications when required, and supporting residents who may wake during the night.

The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, observant, dependable, and comfortable working independently while remaining part of a supportive team.

Overnight Responsibilities

- Provide awake overnight supervision of residents.
- Conduct scheduled wellness and safety checks throughout the night.
- Respond promptly to behavioural, emotional, or medical concerns.
- Support residents who wake during the night and assist them in returning to bed when appropriate.
- Administer medications as prescribed and complete Medication Administration Records (MARs).
- Implement individualized care plans, behaviour support plans, and safety plans.
- Complete overnight documentation, daily logs, incident reports, and communication notes.
- Prepare the home for the morning shift, including light housekeeping, laundry, and organization.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic living environment.
- Communicate important observations to incoming staff during shift handover.
- Follow HHSL policies, Ministry standards, and all health and safety procedures.

Crisis Intervention

Some residents may experience behavioural or mental health crises overnight, including self-injurious behaviours or emotional dysregulation.





Successful applicants must be comfortable responding to crisis situations and understand that approved physical interventions are used only as a last resort to prevent imminent harm to the resident or others, and only in accordance with legislation, agency policy, and certified training (such as UMAB or NVCI).

Qualifications

- Diploma or Degree in:
- Child & Youth Care
- Social Service Worker
- Developmental Service Worker
- Psychology
- Social Work
- Mental Health & Addictions
- Human Services
- or a related field

OR
- Minimum one year of relevant experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, mental health, or complex behavioural needs.

Required Qualifications
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Check (or ability to obtain)
- Broad Record Check (where applicable)
- Current First Aid & CPR (Level C/AED)
- Valid Ontario G Class Driver's Licence
- Reliable vehicle with proof of insurance
- Medication Administration experience (or willingness to be trained)
- Excellent documentation and communication skills
- Ability to work independently throughout overnight shifts

- UMAB (Understanding & Managing Aggressive Behaviour)
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
- Trauma-Informed Care
- Mental Health First Aid
- Medication Administration Training

Schedule
- Permanent Overnight Shifts (11:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Full-Time & Part-Time Positions
- Every other weekend availability required
- Weekdays, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
