Senior Analyst, Portfolio Operations (15-month contract)

The opportunity

Portfolio Operations (POPS) supports Ontario Teachers' global public investment portfolios across equities, fixed income, derivatives, structured products and syndicated loans. The team is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of investment and accounting data, market event election & processing, pricing & portfolio P&L;, and operational controls that support investment decision-making, financial reporting, and risk management.

The Senior Analyst will play a key role in supporting day-to-day operations, investigating complex issues, managing critical controls, and driving process enhancements across a broad range of public market products. The role requires strong analytical capabilities, attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for investing and financial markets.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders including Portfolio Managers, Global Trading, Trade Management, Treasury Operations, Collateral & Liquidity Operations, Risk & Performance Analytics, Financial Reporting, Data Management, Legal, Compliance and Tax teams, as well as external stakeholders including custodians, counterparties, pricing vendors, technology providers, and skilled advisors.

Who you'll work with

This role reports to the Manager, Portfolio Operations and works closely with investment, finance, risk, technology and operational stakeholders across OTPP.

What you'll do

Execute daily operational activities supporting publicly traded portfolios (30%)

- Support investment accounting, reconciliation and operational processes across equities, fixed income, derivatives, structured products, and syndicated loans.
- Monitor accounting and investment data quality to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of records.
- Investigate and resolve operational exceptions, reconciliation breaks, and data discrepancies.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve complex issues impacting portfolio operations.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and knowledge sharing across the team.
- Provide support and guidance on complex operational matters.





Process market events and asset servicing activities (20%)

- Support the capture, validation and processing of corporate actions, income events, voluntary elections, derivative lifecycle events, and other market-related activities.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Monitor impacts on positions, valuations, accounting, and reporting.

Support portfolio valuations, pricing oversight and P&L; analysis (20%)

- Perform valuation oversight activities and monitor pricing obtained from vendors, counterparties, and internal models.
- Investigate pricing exceptions and material portfolio P&L; movements.
- Partner with investment teams and valuation stakeholders to resolve pricing and valuation matters.
- Contribute to valuation of governance and control processes.

Verify information and uphold operational controls (15%)

- Execute key operational and financial controls.
- Perform position, transaction, accounting, and valuation reconciliations.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of data supporting financial reporting and portfolio management activities.
- Investigate, expedite, and resolve control exceptions.

Drive process improvement and innovation initiatives (10%)

- Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, improve scalability, and enhance operational efficiency.
- Contribute to automation, reporting and data-driven solutions using technology and AI-enabled tools.
- Participate in strategic initiatives supporting new products, markets, and operating models.

Support stakeholder and vendor relationships (5%)

- Partner effectively with internal clients and external service providers.
- Collaborate with custodians, counterparties, pricing vendors and technology vendors to resolve issues and support operational excellence.




- Represent OTPP in a professional and cooperative manner.

What you'll need

- University degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related discipline.
- 3-5 years of experience supporting public market investment operations, investment accounting, valuation, reconciliation, or asset servicing activities.
- Strong understanding of publicly traded investment products including equities, fixed income, derivatives, structured products and/or syndicated loans.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate complex issues and determine root causes.
- Experience working with accounting data, reconciliations, valuations, and portfolio P&L.;
- Advanced Excel skills and experience utilizing data analysis tools.
- Experience with Python, SQL, Power BI or similar technologies.
- Experience with working in systems including Simcorp, Trioptima, Markit/S&P; Global, Pricing Direct, Reuters and Bloomberg
- Experience leveraging automation and AI-enabled tools to improve business processes is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of operational controls, data quality, and risk management principles.
- Highly detail-oriented, organized, and thorough.
- Curious, intellectually engaged, and passionate about investing and financial markets.
- Motivated to challenge existing processes and drive meaningful improvements.
- Solid communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Enrollment in or progress toward CFA designation is considered an asset.
