What We're Looking For
Reporting to the Director of Product Management, you will work closely with our team for the design, development, and evolution of the company’s in‑house selection and quoting tool (Smardt Portal). This is a hands‑on technical role, owning delivery across the full software development lifecycle—from planning and design through development, testing, and deployment, under the direction of your lead. You will also work on ongoing improvements to the current platform while developing the Smardt Portal 2.0, in partnership with Engineering, Sales, and other stakeholders to deliver solutions aligned with business goals and timelines. This role is 100 % on site and you’ll be expected to work on a daily basis, side‑by‑side, with your team.
What You'll Do
- Contribute directly to development activities, delivering high‑quality features and enhancements
- Lead the development of Smardt Portal 2.0 alongside ongoing improvements to the current platform in collaboration with the Canadian portal team
- Ensure the solution is scalable, maintainable, secure, and aligned with business needs
- Serve as the escalation point for complex technical issues
- Ensure timely delivery of enhancements, fixes, and new capabilities
- Drive high engineering standards through code reviews, testing, and documentation
- Maintain system reliability, performance, and data accuracy
- Monitor the sales‑force online platform development and issues
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate effectively with backend and frontend developers to ensure cohesive technical solutions
- Work closely with developers through pairing, code reviews, and on‑hand problem solving
- Ensure integration and interoperability of Smardt Portal with related systems such as SEPTOR, BI, and Salesforce
- Collaborate with the Rating Engine team to align technical implementations and meet project milestones
- Partner with Engineering, Sales, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into delivered solutions
Service & Support
- Oversee intake, prioritization, and resolution of IT smardtDesk and GITHUB tickets related to Smardt Portal
- Ensure timely and effective user support
What You'll Bring – Skills and Competencies
- Bilingual (English/French)
- Medium proficiency in French and English; French required for communication with the Quebec team, English required for communication with clients and partners outside Quebec and for reviewing technical documentation available only in English
- Experience with backend development; API design is a strong asset
- Experience with business logic and rule‑based systems, relational databases, and data modeling is an asset
- Working knowledge of frontend development and contemporary UI frameworks
- Previous internship experience designing, building, and maintaining business‑critical applications, preferably internal tools
- Experience with code review and commitment to engineering best practices
- Strong communication skills,
with comfort working directly with non‑technical stakeholders
- Solid Python fundamentals (Django experience is a plus but not required)
- Some exposure to a modern JavaScript framework
- Habit of writing tests as part of writing code, not after
- Comfort asking questions and raising concerns early
- Interest in understanding the problem you are solving, not just the ticket in front of you
- Backend: Python/Django, Django REST Framework, Celery (async tasks), PostgreSQL
- Frontend: A JavaScript framework (Vue 3 or React; final decision will come during the design phase)
- Infrastructure: Docker, Redis
- Meeting deadlines
- Problem‑solving
- Teamwork and independent work
- Attention to detail
Education and Experience
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in computer science, software engineering, or a related field
- Previous hands‑on software development internship experience
