Together, we are enhancing the quality of life globally through design. Join us and design your place with Stantec. As a Senior Electrical Engineer in our Dartmouth/Moncton office, you will work independently on small and average-sized projects, and as a team leader on larger projects.
You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices. Prepare site plans, floor plans, diagrams, risers, schedules and details to adequately describe areas of project scope. Engage in the development of electrical design through sketches, electronic models and diagrams.
Evaluate, select, specify and detail electrical, communications and life-safety systems or products for a project and assuring work is reviewed for overall technical accuracy Lead the preparation and coordination of the project specification documents. Perform and oversee the development of calculations using company standard design tools and proprietary manufacturer software as required. Participate in or lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
Quality Assurance
Conduct quality assurance and quality control on projects.
Adhere to Stantec’s internal quality control procedures. Collaborate in person or remotely with team members, other Stantec disciplines and clients to achieve project success, acting as a project team member, discipline lead or a project leader.
Conduct field reviews of projects during construction to verify conformance with construction documents and provide letters of qualified assurance to the applicable authorities having jurisdiction. Respond to contractor queries (typically via RFI/SI/CD process) Evaluating proposed products for compliance via shop drawing review. Provide input on multiple projects with overlapping demands and deliverables.
Assist project managers with describing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule. Reasonable knowledge of and ability to implement major electrical-related standards (Canadian Electrical Code, National Building Code of Canada etc.) Experience in industrial/commercial/institutional electrical design including:
- Electrical service design, feeder sizing calculations, over-current protection, load analysis and fault calculation.
Experience in the design of lighting systems (indoor and outdoor).
Experience in the design of life safety (fire alarm systems, exit and emergency lighting) Personal Skills Be comfortable in a client-facing role and in the field.
Bilingual (English and French) would be a major asset. Understanding the importance of complying with Stantec’s Employee Health and Safety (EHS) program, with a focus on safety in the field. Possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel within the maritime provinces (typically day-trips but some overnight travel as well).
Project
Management and Business Development Skills Interest and ability in Project Management would be considered an asset. Understanding of preparation of project proposals including estimating hours of work, resource availability and cross-discipline collaboration. Strong leadership skills, with proven ability to lead project tasks and activities.
Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule. Ability to assist in recruitment and evaluation of new candidates for the electrical team.
Software Skills
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word and Excel primarily).
Experience in Revit and/or AutoCAD would be considered an asset.
Experience in dedicated lighting design tools (AGI32 or others) would be considered an asset. Comfort with electrical design tools (feeder sizing, conduit fills, generator sizing etc.) An Electrical Engineering Degree from an accredited university is required. Eligibility for registration as a professional engineer in the local engineering professional association required.
Typical office environment includes working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
