Senior Electrical
Engineer to provide technical leadership and deliver high‑quality electrical engineering design and contract administration for complex commercial and institutional building projects across Alberta, with occasional travel outside the province for project-related coordination only. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in building electrical systems, strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards, and proven experience supporting projects through design, construction, and closeout. You will play a key role in leading electrical design packages, supporting construction-phase reviews, coordinating with clients and project partners, and contributing to the growth and development of the electrical team.
Electrical
Engineering & Design Leadership Lead the design and development of electrical systems, including: Fire alarm and life safety systems Security and surveillance systems Perform and oversee engineering calculations including load studies, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash analysis Prepare and review drawings, specifications, and technical documentation Ensure compliance with Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), Alberta codes, and industry standards Provide technical guidance and mentorship to technologists, EITs,
and junior engineers to the more junior technical team Support value engineering, constructability reviews, and design optimization Electrical Contract Administration Manage electrical scope throughout all construction phases, from tender through project closeout. Review and respond to project documentation including shop drawings, RFIs, submittals, and change orders. Conduct field reviews and site observations to verify alignment with design intent and applicable standards.
Coordinate with contractors and consultants as well as internal project teams to resolve design and construction issues. Monitor project progress, schedules, and deliverables to support successful execution. Prepare construction documentation including field reports, deficiency lists, and closeout materials.
Support project managers with cost control, change evaluation, and risk management activities.
Field
Reviews & Construction Support Prepare field reviews and complete field review reports. Fire Alarm & Life Safety Systems Design and review fire alarm systems in accordance with ULC standards. Coordinate testing and commissioning with contractors and AHJs.
Support or oversee fire alarm verification activities. Ensure compliance with municipal and provincial regulatory requirements.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering + 6 years of experience managing multiple projects of various types and complexities for commercial, institutional, and light industrial clients.
Proven experience in contract administration and project delivery.
Canadian Electrical
Code (CEC) Alberta Building Code, National Building Code Valid Class 5 driver’s license (travel to project sites required) Ability to obtain security clearance (Police/RCMP Reliability Status) 10+ years of progressive experience in electrical design and construction support. Robust experience in electrical consulting and building systems design.
Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit. Strong knowledge of electrical system modeling and analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM – asset).
Experience with lighting design software (AGI32 or DIALux – preferred). Familiarity with commissioning processes and documentation workflows. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite. Strong understanding of protection, coordination, and control systems.
Hybrid work model: office, home, and project sites. Travel within Alberta and occasional out‑of‑province travel. Occasional extended hours during fire alarm verifications and major project milestones. Competitive salary based on experience.
Preferred Assets
Experience in consulting engineering environments.
Experience with large‑scale commercial, institutional, or infrastructure projects. Project management and client‑facing experience. Company paid relocation is not available for this position.
