Senior Geo-Structural/Geotechnical Design Engineer, for COWI in North America

Role location and type

Toronto — Regular, Full-Time, Hybrid

Responsibilities

- Perform engineering analysis and design of tunnels, caverns, and shafts in soils, bedrock and/or mixed ground conditions, including initial support and final lining constructed by methods such as sequential excavation method (SEM) / NATM, TBM, or drill and blast
- Apply soil and rock mechanics to evaluate failure modes and develop ground support schemes
- Evaluate subsurface conditions for different tunneling and underground excavation methods based on geotechnical data
- Prepare drawing sketches indicating support types, geometry, construction sequencing, instrumentation, and results; document these in technical memoranda and geotechnical design reports
- Contribute to digital delivery and information management of projects from conception through completion

Qualifications

- A Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering (PhD considered an asset)
- A registered Professional Engineer License (P.Eng.) in Ontario
- Minimum of 10+ years’ international project design experience, including analysis and design of tunnels, caverns and underground structures
- Experience providing geotechnical support for complex structures; familiarity with Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual, CSA Codes, National Building Code and Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code
- Team player who is self-motivated and able to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic,



interdisciplinary environment
- Basic knowledge of BIM and parametric design software (AutoCAD, Dynamo, Grasshopper) and design software (RS2/3, SWEDGE, UNWEDGE, DIPS, UDEC, FLAC/FLAC3D, Plaxis 2D/3D, Sofistik, etc.)
