Since 1986, WOCRC has supported individuals and families through a wide range of community, social, and health services designed to strengthen and empower the communities we serve.Our programs support children, youth, families, newcomers, seniors, and individuals experiencing crisis or social isolation through counselling, housing and violence against women services, community development initiatives, health promotion, and family support programming.At WOCRC, we are committed to fostering healthy, inclusive, vibrant, and resilient communities where individuals feel supported, connected, and empowered to thrive.POSITION SUMMARY:The Program Assistant, Community Support, will work closely with the Community Support Service Coordinators to provide a community and volunteer-based approach to service delivery to older adults and adults with physical disabilities.This is a temporary full-time role at 35 hours a week, starting mid August 2026 to February 2027 with the possibility of extension.PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Administrative and program delivery of Meals on Wheels, Transportation, Diners Club, Foot Care, Social and Congurate Dining, Service Coordination, Enhanced Support Coordination, Service Arrangement, Visiting Social/Safety services and Virtual ProgramingTelephone triage requests and forward to appropriate internal staff membersBook intake appointments for Service Coordinators through Care DoveReceive requests for service from clients and work with program partners to process service requests by telephone, online booking or in personSupport and consult with team members to ensure that services and supports are delivered and maintained meeting the individual needs of the older adult / adult with disabilities as identified in their Service /Care PlanCollaborate with program partners to ensure consistent delivery of servicesPreparing weekly route sheets for food suppliers and volunteers/ paid drivers for meals delivery; Matching/scheduling of volunteers and paid drivers for transportation, meals on wheels, foot care, and visiting social/safetyConsult with Volunteer and Student Services Coordinator to identify volunteer needs, challenges, performance and recognitionOngoing review, update and development of Volunteer Job DescriptionsOrienting recent volunteers and paid drivers for service deliveryProvide support and supervision for volunteers and staff to ensure the necessary skills and information to perform the duties of their positionCompleting yearly performance appraisals with volunteersPreparation for weekly/ monthly congregate dining and social activities ( ordering meals,



booking entertainment, guest speakers)Recording weekly statistics for all programs; Documenting clientcontact in CIMSArranging payment of monthly invoices to suppliers; Invoicing clients on a monthly basis; Maintain equipmentand supplies for programs and ensure regular updates and maintenance is completedAdvocacySupport and promote advocacy skills of community members and assume an advocate role as requiredSupport and advocate on behalf of clients and their families in obtaining services through other social and/or health providersActively participate in committees regarding services available, gaps in services and issues affecting clients and their familiesCommunity EducationParticipating as a community support team member at internal and external meetings; including local and/or regional service related committees/work groups/networksPromote awareness of issues affecting older and persons with disabilities amongst colleagues and community membersDevelop community strategies to increase awareness of issues affecting members of our communities servedParticipate as a staff member in internal and external meetings, public relations events, fundraising events and media contacts as requestedResponding to community requests for informationPresentation to community groups as requestedEngage in outreach activities to heighten public awareness of the Centre and its services, focusing on rural transportationPromote CSS Services through development of internal and external promotional materialCollaborate with Corporate Service for internal and external publication of promotional materialCoordination of service and policyParticipate as a Community Support team member at internal and external meetingsTake a leadership role and/or participate in advocacy and coordination committees of social and health services on a local level, particularly related to issues affecting seniors and persons with physical disabilitiesDesign, maintain and implement appropriate procedures for effective service deliveryAdopting and promoting a participatory style of planning and problem solvingProvide coverage for team members as requiredFacilitate programming and support groups as requiredAdvocacy for coordinated planning of servicesEstablishing and maintaining links with community groups and agencies to facilitate referrals and positive working relationshipsTraining and DevelopmentParticipate and contribute to the recognition of volunteers associated with Community Support servicesProvide staff development training to colleagues on areas of expertiseProviding training and support to students, volunteers and team members as requiredProvide training to community groups as necessaryProvide opportunities for students and volunteers to practice skills and participate in the delivery of Community Support servicesEnsure evaluation of servicePrepare and maintain client and information filesPrepare and maintain all necessary documentation and statistics related to responsibilities and duties on a monthly, quarterly and annual basisParticipate and contribute to the Centre’s evaluationParticipate and contribute to all CSS evaluationsBe accountable for payments, billings, petty cash and/or other financial record-keeping related to the provision of services and client fees associated with the servicesQualifications Education & ExperienceSSW, DSW with training in Gerontology, Community Support or equivalent in education and trainingMinimum two years experience in social and health services working with older adults and/or adults with disabilitiesExperience working with and managing volunteers considered an assetKnowledge of local communities servedKnowledge of and commitment to working within a community based, strength based modelPublic speaking and public education skills an assetStrong organizational and communication skillsExperience in program development, delivery and evaluationValid drivers license, access to a vehicle, adequate insurance coverageAbility to communicate fluently in English, spoken and writtenAbility to communicate in French, an assetAbility to communicate in other languages reflective of populations served is an assetMicrosoft Office Suite of Products – IntermediateData BaseOur Commitment to Equity, Diversity & InclusionThe Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre (WOCRC) is committed to fostering an inclusive, accessible, and equitable workplace where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
