Reporting to the Vice President, Communications, the Senior Manager, External Communications will play a critical role in strengthening goeasy’s external voice and reputation during an important period of continued growth and visibility. This 18‑month contract role will help lead the development and execution of a proactive external communications program, with a focus on media relations, corporate storytelling, issues management, executive visibility, and day‑to‑day reputation support.
The Senior Manager will help shape and amplify goeasy’s corporate narrative by identifying meaningful story opportunities, building strong media materials, monitoring emerging issues, coordinating timely responses, and ensuring external communications are clear, accurate, consistent, and aligned to the company’s brand, values, and business priorities.
What will you be doing?
- Media Relations:
- Draft and refine press releases, statements, key messages, briefing notes, Q&A;, and media materials.
- Triage and coordinate media inquiries, ensuring timely, accurate, and well‑positioned responses.
- Monitor media coverage, identify trends, and recommend opportunities to strengthen external visibility and reputation.
- Manage day‑to‑day media relations activities and journalist engagement.
- Proactive Storytelling:
- Identify opportunities to communicate operational progress, strategic initiatives, business achievements, and the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives externally.
- Develop and implement external communications plans that strengthen brand reputation and trust with key audiences.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to gather proof points, business updates, and supporting data.
- Coordinate messaging and elevate the corporate narrative in collaboration with cross‑functional partners to ensure consistency across stakeholder‑facing communications.
- Work closely with communications team colleagues to amplify external narratives across internal channels, and vice versa.
- Partner with HR team members on employer brand‑building programs, including supporting goeasy’s corporate LinkedIn channel.
- Issues Management & Reputation Support:
- Monitor emerging issues and reputational risks across traditional and social media.
- Support the development of issues and crisis management plans and materials.
- Help maintain issues trackers and risk monitoring processes.
- Apply sound judgment in assessing reputational risk, message sensitivity, and escalation requirements.
- Executive Support:
- Prepare and advise executives and subject matter experts for media opportunities, including the development of briefing materials and speaking points as needed.
- Support executive visibility and thought leadership through speaking opportunities and strategic social media content that strengthens the company’s voice and credibility.
- Measurement & Reporting:
- Support the development and project management of goeasy’s annual report, working cross‑functionally with internal partners.
- Track and report on media sentiment, coverage trends, key message pull‑through, and reputational insights.
- Support the development of regular reporting dashboards and external communications metrics.
- Use insights from reporting and media monitoring to identify opportunities, risks, and recommendations for future external communications activity.
What experience do you have?
- 5+ years of corporate communications or public relations experience, with a specific focus on media relations and/or issues management.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate business updates into clear and compelling external narratives.
- Understanding of the Canadian media landscape and a knack for breaking through with compelling pitches and story angles.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, respond effectively under pressure,
and operate successfully in a fast‑paced, highly visible environment.
- Experience partnering across teams and levels, with strong collaboration and relationship management skills.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage priorities and drive execution.
- Sound judgment, responsiveness, and attention to detail.
- Curiosity and openness to using AI and emerging tools to improve media monitoring, content development, measurement, and external communications planning.
- Experience supporting communications in a regulated, publicly traded, financial services, consumer‑facing, or similarly high‑visibility environment is considered an asset.
- Agency experience is considered an asset.
- Bilingual French is considered an asset.
Benefits & Compensation
We offer a Flexible Work Program that provides you the ability to work three days onsite per week, from our Mississauga office.
$90,000.00 – $130,000.00 CAD (includes base salary only)
