Role Description
Arcadis seeks an experienced Senior Mining Geotechnical Engineer to join our Canadian Mine Sector team. The role is client‑facing, technical and requires 15–20 years of direct mining sector geotechnical engineering experience.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to plan and deliver mine tailings and waste rock investigations, designs, and management solutions across complex mining projects.
- Prepare technical reports and work plans, evaluate tailings facilities, waste rock storage areas, and water management structures (dams, dykes, diversion systems).
- Coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with engineering and environmental standards.
- Provide technical oversight as or toward an Engineer of Record (EoR) or Deputy EoR, ensuring engineering integrity across projects.
- Lead and contribute to geotechnical engineering reviews, oversee laboratory testing programs, and support annual dam and site inspections per the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management and Canadian Dam Association guidelines.
- Offer technical leadership, define project goals and constraints, guide junior staff, and coordinate input from internal and external stakeholders.
- Support client engagement and business development, including identification of new growth opportunities, permitting efforts, and compliance with regulatory and engineering standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- MSc degree in civil or geotechnical engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
- Minimum 15–20 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably within the mining industry.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in a Canadian province or territory.
- Demonstrated experience with tailings facilities, dam engineering, and waste rock management.
- Strong communication skills, able to engage clients and represent Arcadis externally.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and mentoring junior staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience serving as an Engineer of Record or significant experience supporting EoR responsibilities across multiple sites.
- Experience in Arctic or permafrost regions of Northern Canada.
- Proven involvement in technical pursuits and project delivery leadership.
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills for senior stakeholders and clients.
- Experience supporting or leading Dam Safety Reviews.
Salary
Salary range: $163,000 – $196,000. Actual salaries will vary based on location, skills, experience, and qualifications.
