Overview
PwC’s Employment Tax, Payroll & Rewards group provides consulting on cross‑border employment, domestic payroll, advantages taxability, and province of employment considerations. The Tax Services Payroll Manager supports clients with payroll services and advises on employment tax compliance.
Responsibilities
- Proactively assist in managing a portfolio of clients, reporting to Senior Managers, Directors, and Partners
- Consult with clients on employment tax, payroll compliance, and process queries
- Support junior resources in preparing outsourced payroll files, reviewing client‑facing deliverables, and coaching staff
- Take ownership of documentation, analyze engagement economics, draft final billing for partner review, and deliver timely performance evaluations
- Develop strong client relationships and identify opportunities to provide additional services
- Contribute to the development of technical acumen for self and team
- Participate in recruiting and develop junior staff through review, training, and coaching
- Keep up to date with local and national business and economic issues
- Follow risk management and compliance procedures
Qualifications
- Experience with multi‑provincial payroll rules and exposure to Canadian payroll software (ADP, Ceridian/Dayforce, UKG, etc.)
- CPA designation and/or payroll designation such as PLP or PCP considered an asset
- 5 years of experience in a similar role (Payroll Specialist, Payroll Manager, Global Mobility or Cross‑Border Payroll Manager, or Supervisor)
- Strong understanding of employment tax rules and regulations, payroll delivery, and tax
- Strong knowledge of the Canadian payroll landscape, including Quebec province rules
- Knowledge of global mobility payroll implications (shadow payroll, gross‑ups, tax equalizations) considered an asset
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Excellent client service, organizational skills, positive attitude, and ability to meet fixed timelines
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills, project management, efficient multitasking, and high attention to detail
- Fluency in French and English required for a Quebec‑based opportunity; fluency in French is a strong asset elsewhere
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $84,700 – $134,700. Base salary is determined by skills, experience, qualifications, and location. Eligible employees may participate in variable incentive pay programs.
