Duties CFIA Veterinarians play a key role in Canadian food safety. They help maintain healthy practices in the food and livestock industries, including meat hygiene and terrestrial/aquatic animal health, within research and diagnostic laboratories. They educate the public and industry officials about potential hazards of importation of animal products, or through inspection of animals and meat products. CFIA Veterinarians work in a broad range of environments, performing a wide variety of critical tasks. Key activities include: Animal disease control and surveillance International standard-setting for animal health Veterinary biologics and biotechnology Import and export of animals and animal products Meat hygiene Food recall and emergency response VM-01 – Animal Health Veterinarian. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, assisting in the delivery of the CFIA’s Animal Health Programs through activities such as investigating incidents of reportable diseases, conducting inspections of animal/animal products, ensuring regulatory compliance and humane transport of animals in accordance with international standards and regulations; working in slaughter establishments as required operationally. Intent of the process The current need is to fill a 12-month term in Lacolle, Quebec. A pool of qualified candidates will be established to staff positions in the St-Hyacinthe Region, Quebec. This pool may be used to staff positions with similar qualifications, various conditions of employment, and/or various tenures including term appointments, indeterminate appointments and/or assignments.
