Don't just work anywhere - come build tomorrow together with us.Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Investment Finance & Operations, the Vice President, Valuations will lead the private equity and private credit valuation team, while also partnering with the peer Vice President, Valuations (who is principally accountable for infrastructure asset valuations) to develop and optimize effective, efficient, coherent and consistent processes and outputs. The VP will also serve as an active member on several internal committees, including the Leadership of Investment Finance & Operations (LIFO) team, and the Valuations Working Group.Key ResponsibilitiesLead a team of ~10 individuals through inspiration, relationship, delegation, feedback, recognition and development.Equally, lead amongst peers and the broader IF&O and Finance teams as a culture carrier and standard setter, including active participation as a member of the LIFO TeamLead the planning and execution of the quarterly and annual valuation processes for all assets in scope, totaling approximately $40 billion, including any processes related to obtaining external reviews and assurance.This includes for the preparation and/or review of valuations for financial reporting and for tax planning, and presenting the results of valuations to Management and the OMERS Audit & Risk CommitteeProvide independent challenge and judgement regarding valuation assumptions, methodologies and outcomes, ensuring valuations are robust, supportable and consistent across asset classesPartner with deal teams on transactions, as needed,
including addressing their queries on existing assetsOversee the maintenance of financial models and forecasts for portfolio assets to assist in budgeting, scenario analyses, and capital allocation and risk assessments.Actively co-own and strategically enhance the toolset used to prepare valuations, and participate fully in data governance initiatives specific to data sets within the valuations purviewContinuously improve our valuation processes and methodologies, in partnership with the peer VP, ValuationsAssist in updating OMERS valuation policy, guideline, and internal controls, considering industry best practicesActively invest in relationships across the C-Suite, Global Investment Heads, Investment, Finance, Risk, TPM, Sustainable Investing, external advisors, external auditors and otherwise, consistently demonstrating expertise and partnership.Key senior relationships include the heads of asset management in private equity, as well as leaders in Risk, Total Portfolio Management and Corporate Finance - not to mention peers within the Investment Finance & Operations teamServe as a trusted advisor to the EVP and CFO, senior leadership and governance bodies on valuation matters, financial performance implications and emerging valuation trendsMonitor developments in valuation standards, accounting requirements and industry practices, ensuring OMERS methodologies and governance framework remain aligned with leading market practicesRequired Capabilities & Experience12+ years of valuations experience, ideally with a global institutional investor with complex investments across private equity and credit, and across geographies 7+ years of progressive team leadership 5+ years of progressive experience communicating, clearly and concisely, with executives and boards, across all forms, with a particular focus on oral communication A Chartered Business Valuation (CBV)
or equivalent professional designation such as CPA or CFA Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field; advanced degree preferred.Deep expertise in valuation methodologies for private and public investments, including complex and illiquid assets.Excellent skills in strategic and big picture thinking, problem-solving, prioritization and analytics.Preferred Capabilities & ExperienceStrong knowledge of IFRS, fair value measurement standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to pension funds and investment organizations.Experience working in a large, complex, and energetic investment environment is strongly preferred.Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships and influence effectively across all levels of a complex organization.Proven servant leader with a strong track record of developing high-performing teams and fostering collaboration.Exceptional communication skills with the ability to challenge constructively, drive thoughtful debate and build alignment among diverse stakeholders.Growth mindset with a continuous improvement orientation and commitment to excellence.Work Location & HoursThis role is in our Toronto office.
