Korn Ferry has partnered with a Canadian real estate firm that is seeking an executive to lead their accounting function.

As part of the Leadership Team, this executive will be a key strategic leader, overseeing the company’s financial management, financial reporting, financing, treasury, taxation and valuation for the organization.

The successful candidate will build the institutional finance foundation for the firm’s next phase of growth, developing processes with a line of sight to a public-company standard, while bringing strategic depth to the executive team. The role will be looked to for true ownership of the company's financial position – improving the flow of financial information and turning it into insight the executive team can act on.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead, direct and mentor the accounting team while holding oversight of all accounting operations.
- In collaboration with the leadership team, review the overall strategic plan of the business and projects, ensuring viability from a financial perspective
- Oversee the company’s financial position, including cash flow and risk profile
- Direct the preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax returns, and other reports that may be required
- Work with other departments to efficiently develop budgets and forecasts (operating, development and capital), with a focus on implementing new processes and/or workflows to streamline the process and increase accuracy
- Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, tax incentives and efficiencies, analyze internal operations, and identify areas for cost reduction and process enhancement
- Monitor business performance with tracking tools, establish corrective measures as needed, and prepare detailed reports for investor calls, management team, and rest of company
- Oversee cash management and treasury function, ensuring cash flow is compatible with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting,



and internal-control activities of the organization
- Direct and oversee all financial and investor reporting
- In collaboration with other departments, develop and implement tax planning strategies to help efficiently structure new investments, funds and business lines
- Develop and implement best practices and tools to ensure the organization continues to have solid fiscal management, project coordination, cross-team communication, and workflows
- Ensure compliance with joint venture agreements with partners, credit agreements with lenders and ongoing national and local financial legislation, including CRA filing requirements and examination reviews
- Oversee cost allocations for staffing, overhead and shared expenses to project and property level joint ventures
- Maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial records
- Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements, reports and forecasts in accordance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises and International Financial Reporting Standards (where applicable)
- Study long-range economic trends and project impact on future strategy
- Maintain accounting records for shareholder entities and assist with tax planning as required
- Oversee and provide final signoff for the company’s corporate and project payroll and government remittances

Professional Experience/Qualifications
- Preference will be given to public accounting audit background
- Experience in IFRS and ASPE
- Prior experience leading and mentoring high performance teams
- Exposure to both reporting and FP&A;
- Experience managing audits
- Self-motivated, curious, responsive, and results driven

Education
- University degree in Business or related discipline
- CPA Mandatory
- Additional education including CFA or MBA would be considered an asset
