Understanding of control system will be an asset.Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvides design services by gathering information, making studies, computing calculations, and preparing detailed design and deliverables in accordance with project requirementsDesigns components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operationsGathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts and sketches to present design proposalsCoordinates design criteria with engineering providing layout skid packages including MCC building, cable tray and lighting layouts, and motor schematic drawingsInvestigates pertinent design factors, such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirementsChecks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to codes, regulations, and standards, procedures, specifications, critical interface compatibility, productibility aspects, and dimensional accuracy of calculationsChecks for conformity to design/drafting standards, design specifications, and economy of fabrication and identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficienciesCoordinates assigned engineering and design work with other project groupsRecommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designersParticipates in project planning and execution, man-hour estimation, and schedule developmentSupervises and provides technical direction to intermediate and junior designersPrerequisitesEducationA degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent education and experienceASET membership is an assetExperience15 years of directly related experience in electrical design of oil and gas processing facilities with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Canadian industry5 years’ checking experienceExperience with an EPC work environmentFabrication shop designing and checking experienceProficiency in latest version of AutoCADOther2-3 years’ experience with 3D CADWorx3+ years’ experience with 2D AcadExperience with Autodesk programs including AutoCAD and InventorFamiliarity with CEC, NEC industry regulations, and standardsMust be eligible to work in CanadaAs a condition of employment, employees are required upon hire to sign a Drug-Free Workplace Agreement, a Conflict-of-Interest Agreement, and Confidentiality and Invention AgreementRequired Skills and AbilitiesAbility to work independently and as part of a teamExcellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skillsStrong command of the English languageExcellent organizational, time management, and planning skillsAbility to meet objectives while working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and strict deadlinesAdaptable to changing demandsAbility to take independent action to accomplish objectivesExcellent reading, research, and analytical skillsAbility to interpret and utilize complex informationDetail-orientedAbility to monitor the quality of own workAdvanced mathematics and science skillsProblem solvingAbility to resolve technical problemsAbility to create systems for checking accuracyAbility to understand verbal and written instructionsRelationshipsInternalMust work in a team environmentAttends meetings and liaises with Electrical Designers and Checkers, multidisciplinary Designers and Drafters, Engineering, and FabricationConfers with shop and departmental personnel while gathering informationMay be required to prepare internal reportsExternalNot applicableAuthority LevelTechnical decisions are routine in nature and will follow precedents and proceduresManager is readily available for assistance and guidanceWork is reviewed for accuracy and conformance with prescribed proceduresSpecific Work ConditionsThe work is performed in an office setting and requires the need to deal with a diversity of people when responding to interdepartmental inquiriesCoping with frequent interruption and changing prioritiesRequired to attend meetings at other buildingsPhysical RequirementsRequires ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods using a computer, reading manuals, etc.Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away file boxes weighing up to 25 lbs.Manual dexterity for data input, paperwork and use of standard office equipmentMust wear company-standard PPE when entering fabrication shops or visiting project sites.
