The Social Media Assistant supports Alliance for Healthier Communities’ online presence with content creation and audience engagement across its social media platforms and website. This includes developing graphics, video editing, writing articles, blogs and other content to help amplify Alliance’s brand, initiatives, and events online. This position also supports the Communications and Stakeholder Relations Team as required.

- Drafts, schedules, and posts content across platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and the website, including captions, hashtags, and visuals.
- Re-posts and shares relevant content from members, partners, and stakeholders.
- Creates graphics and short-form videos using Adobe, Canva, or similar platforms.
- Writes clear, engaging captions, and informative and persuasive articles and content for Alliance’s website and platforms, ensuring alignment with the organization’s tone, brand, and accessibility standards.

Collaboration and Support

- Works with staff to gather stories, photos, and updates for social media content.
- Promotes Alliance initiatives and events with timely social posts.
- Keeps abreast of emerging social media trends, platform updates,



and nonprofit digital best practices, and effectively integrates them into strategy and execution.
- Leverages approved artificial intelligence (AI) tools as appropriate to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in posting and performance measurement.

Online Engagement and Monitoring

- Monitors comments, messages, and mentions daily; responds promptly and professionally.
- Fosters positive interactions online.
- Uses approved generative AI and other tools to enhance engagement and drive meaningful interactions.
- Escalates sensitive inquiries or issues as needed.

Analytics and Reporting

- Tracks basic performance metrics (e.g. reach, engagement, follower growth) using native platform insights or other tools.
- Supports reporting when requested, to inform online content strategy.

Team Support

- Provides administrative support as required, including but not limited to assisting with organizational events and initiatives.
- Undergraduate degree or college diploma in digital media, communications, marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum of one year of experience in digital communications within a business or organizational setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proven ability to create engaging digital communications, including articles, blog posts, and website content, along with supporting visual materials.
- Demonstrated experience managing and creating content across major social media platforms, with an understanding of their distinct audiences.
- Experience publishing and maintaining website content.
- Proficiency with graphic design and video editing tools.




- Familiarity with AI tools and their application to improve efficiency and workflow.
- Strong understanding of digital accessibility best practices, including writing descriptive alt text, providing accurate captions and transcripts, structuring documents appropriately, ensuring accessible colour contrast, and designing content compatible with screen readers and other assistive technologies.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of attention to detail, with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient with Windows and Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Lists, etc.).
- Ability to conduct work in keeping with the Alliance’s commitment to anti-oppression, anti-racism (including anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism), French language services, and to being 2SLGBTQ+ positive.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada for the contract term.
- Bilingualism in English and French is a very strong asset.
- Experience in a non-profit, provincial association is an asset.

This position will have some flexibility of working from home and will be required to be in office when needed at the Alliance office in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
