Overview Senior Geo-Structural/Geotechnical Design Engineer, for COWI in North America
Role location and type Toronto — Regular, Full-Time, Hybrid
Responsibilities Perform engineering analysis and design of tunnels, caverns, and shafts in soils, bedrock and/or mixed ground conditions, including initial support and final lining constructed by methods such as sequential excavation method (SEM) / NATM, TBM, or drill and blast
Apply soil and rock mechanics to evaluate failure modes and develop ground support schemes
Evaluate subsurface conditions for different tunneling and underground excavation methods based on geotechnical data
Prepare drawing sketches indicating support types, geometry, construction sequencing, instrumentation, and results; document these in technical memoranda and geotechnical design reports
Contribute to digital delivery and information management of projects from conception through completion
Qualifications A Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering (PhD considered an asset)
A registered Professional Engineer License (P.Eng.) in Ontario
Minimum of 10+ years’ international project design experience, including analysis and design of tunnels, caverns and underground structures
Experience providing geotechnical support for complex structures; familiarity with Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual, CSA Codes, National Building Code and Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code
Team player who is self-motivated and able to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic,



interdisciplinary environment
Basic knowledge of BIM and parametric design software (AutoCAD, Dynamo, Grasshopper) and design software (RS2/3, SWEDGE, UNWEDGE, DIPS, UDEC, FLAC/FLAC3D, Plaxis 2D/3D, Sofistik, etc.)
