Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Store Manager, the Stock Clerk plays a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of Food Basket This position is responsible for the accurate receiving, stocking, rotation, and display of grocery products in accordance with company standards, health and safety requirements, and customer service expectations.

The Stock

Clerk supports both front- and back-of-house operations, helping to maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized store environment while ensuring our customers experience exceptional service at all times.

Position Responsibilities

Stocking & Merchandising

- Stock, rotate, face, and merchandise products in designated areas following department procedures and store planograms.
- Ensure all items are rotated by First In, First Out (FIFO) and Best Before Date standards to reduce shrink and waste.
- Maintain clean, attractive, and well-stocked displays at all times.
- Accurately place price labels and promotional signage, ensuring correct product descriptions, barcodes, and pricing (regular and sale).
- Monitor promotional and seasonal displays, ensuring compliance with company standards.

Receiving & Inventory Control

- Receive product deliveries, verify accuracy against invoices/packing slips, and promptly report any shortages, damages, or discrepancies.
- Unpack and check incoming stock to ensure quality and accuracy before moving product to the sales floor.
- Assist with cycle counts, stock audits, and full-store inventories.
- Keep back-stock and warehouse areas organized, clearly labeled,



and easily accessible for replenishment.
- Notify the Store Manager of low stock levels, overstock issues, or unusual inventory activity.

Customer Service & Engagement

- Provide professional, friendly, and prompt assistance to customers on the sales floor.
- Help customers locate products and provide basic product knowledge when needed.
- Escalate customer concerns or complaints to the Store Manager when necessary.
- Ensure a customer-first mindset is upheld at all times.

Health, Safety & Compliance

- Routinely check expiry dates, removing and disposing of outdated products according to company procedures.
- Maintain safe practices when lifting, stocking, or moving heavy product.
- Follow all company operational, safety, and sanitation policies, as well as provincial food handling and health regulations.
- Keep aisles, stockrooms, and common areas clean, explicit, and hazard-free.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies, and other equipment safely and only when trained and authorized.

Team Support & Cross-Department Assistance

- Work collaboratively with other team members to meet daily and weekly stocking goals.
- Support other departments (produce, grocery, dairy, frozen, front end, etc.) as directed by the Store Manager.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and managers to ensure smooth operations and workflow.
- Contribute ideas and suggestions for improving efficiency, product displays, or store presentation.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Previous retail, grocery, or warehouse stocking experience is considered an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-first attitude.

Pay: $18.00 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate

- Barrie, ON L4M 4Z9: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
