Stantec's Power team in western Canada is currently looking for Electrical Engineers to work on a variety of HV/EHV AC and DC substation projects throughout North America.

You will collaborate with a multi‐disciplinary team to develop efficient and reliable substations, coordinating planning and design activities to keep projects on schedule and deliver successful outcomes. Perform engineering studies such as power flow, short circuit, grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination, TRV, cable ampacity, busbar design, lighting, and related analyses. Conduct detailed design of substations, including switchyard layouts, sections, grounding plans, cable routing, AC/DC distribution, major equipment specifications, single‐line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, marking, and design calculations.

Prepare technical specifications for major equipment, construction, and testing & commissioning. Provide technical support for procurement, construction, and commissioning. Assist in preparing proposals, project plans, and estimates.

Coordinate with other disciplines during project execution to solve challenging technical issues. Follow internal QA/QC procedures to deliver high‐quality engineering service to clients. Conduct site visits to verify existing installations, define project scope, prepare for detailed design, and provide construction site support as required.

Drafting work may be required in order to complete deliverables.



Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (specialization in Power Systems).

Experience with PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP, CDEGS, WinIGS, MathCAD is an asset. Field experience in commissioning and testing is an asset. Proven knowledge of Civil/Structural and P&C; is an asset. Equipment engineering experience is an asset.

Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and MicroStation. Minimum 6 years of proven direct detailed design and engineering experience related to high‐voltage substations for utilities in North America. Typical office workplace working with computers; Stantec offers a flexible work environment (a hybrid model of working in the office and at home).

Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‐time roles will be pro‐rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
