The University of Guelph, Department of Athletics & Recreation is welcoming applications for the Director, Student Athlete Experience and High-Performance Sport , commencing late Summer 2026 or soon thereafter. The role reports to the Senior Director, Athletics and Recreation and is responsible for establishing and implementing a high-performance sport model that aligns with institutional priorities. Establish, implement, and oversee a high-performance sport model aligned with OUA and U SPORTS standards.
Develop and guide policies, performance frameworks, and program standards to ensure compliance and best practice.
Lead a diverse team of coaches and qualified staff, including recruitment, performance management, professional development, and resolution of complex matters.
Foster cooperative partnerships across campus and with external entities to strengthen athlete supports and program visibility.
Coordinate with Programs & Operations to integrate high-performance priorities with operational delivery (facilities, scheduling, events).
Represent the University in institutional, provincial, and national forums.
Plan and oversee varsity sport budgets,
ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and revenue generation strategies (fundraising, partnerships, program-based initiatives). Management-level experience overseeing athletic programming and/or coaching, preferably in post-secondary sectorial athletics.
Comprehensive knowledge of OUA and U SPORTS practices, policies, and regulatory requirements.
Experience supporting holistic student wellbeing, risk management, and safety for athletes and staff.
Leadership skills that foster a team-oriented culture, mentorship, and equity and inclusion commitment.
Budget and financial management skills with demonstrated decision-making authority and political acuity.
Demonstrable experience with equity-related strategy, policy implementation, and complex issues, including Indigenization, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility case management.
