We are currently looking for a Journeyperson Sheet Metal Worker to be an integral part of our Service / Small Projects Division.

This is a role that will be interesting and dynamic as no two days will be the same.

Black & McDonald is part of the Sheet Metal Union, Local 296.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Read engineering and architectural drawings, sketches and work specifications to be performed, and lay out, measure and mark sheet metal according to drawings or template

Develop patterns for sheet metal using computer-assisted design and drafting (CAD) software package

Operate light metalworking machines such as shears, brakes, punches, and drill presses, including computer numerical control (CNC) equipment to cut, bend, punch, drill, shape or straighten sheet metal

Operate computerized laser or plasma cutting equipment to cut sheet metal

Install and use rigging and hoisting equipment

Fit and join sheet metal parts using riveting, welding, soldering and similar equipment to fabricate products such as ventilation shafts, exhaust hoods, eavestroughs, partition frames, air and heat ducts, material handling systems, roof decking and sheet metal buildings

Install sheet metal products according to specifications and building codes

Grind and buff seams, joints and rough surfaces

Inspect product quality and installation to ensure conformance to specifications.

Journeyperson

Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements

Ability to attain and hold a Security clearance

Ability to read and work from Mechanical / Electrical drawings, HVAC/R schematics, line drawings, etc

Always maintain a professional demeanor with fellow employees and clients

A team player, committed to working in a quality workplace

Ability to work in confined spaces and work on a ladder or scaffold at various heights

Valid class 5 Driver’s license

Be willing and able to join Local Union 296
