SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
The successful candidate will work with students who experience difficulties with communication in K to Grade 12.
Speech Language Pathologists address a continuum of communication issues including:
Specialization in Assistive Technology
Articulation – production of the sounds of language.
Language – understanding and using appropriate vocabulary, word order, grammar; following directions, sequencing events, and using language for social situations.
Fluency – rate and smoothness of speech.
Voice - vocal quality, pitch, and volume.
Hearing – hearing sensitivity to sound.
Alternative and Augmentative Communication – assistive technology and strategies for nonverbal and limited verbal students.
The profession of speech language pathology is concerned with the prevention, assessment and treatment of communication disorders.
Prevention includes increasing public awareness and promoting early identification of communication disorders
Assessment involves the use of a wide variety of specially designed testing and observational techniques.
Intervention may consist of individualized programs, group programs, and/or consultation with others such as school teams, parents, school staff, clinicians, and other professionals.
Candidates must possess
a Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology
be eligible for School Clinician’s Certification issued by Manitoba Education
be registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech and Language Pathologists Association
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory response from both Criminal Record Search and Provincial Child Abuse Registry Check.
