Job Summary
The Assistant Controller supportsthe financial operations of Dakota Dunes Resort by overseeing accountingfunctions, financial reporting, internal controls, and operational analysis.Working closely with the Director of Finance and resort management team, thisrole provides accurate financial insights, supports strategic decision-making,and ensures effective financial practices across hotel, golf, spa, retail, andfood & beverage operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management &Reporting;
Assist in the preparation, review, and analysis ofmonthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Lead and coordinate month-end and year-end closingprocesses to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Analyze financial results, identify trends, andprovide actionable insights to support business decisions.
Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow planning processes.
Monitor key financial performance indicators acrosshotel, golf, spa, retail, and food & beverage operations.
Prepare financial reports and presentations forleadership review.
Accounting Operations &Controls;
Oversee daily accounting operations, includingaccounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, revenue accounting, andgeneral ledger activities.
Ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of bankaccounts, balance sheet accounts, and financial records.
Maintain and enhance internal controls, accountingprocedures, and financial processes.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards,company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Support external audit processes, tax filings, andother compliance activities.
Identify opportunities to improve accountingprocesses, efficiencies, and reporting accuracy.
Resort Operations & BusinessSupport
Partner with department leaders to improvefinancial performance and operational efficiencies.
Provide financial guidance and analysis to supportdecision-making across resort departments.
Monitor departmental revenues, expenses, andprofitability while identifying opportunities for cost management andrevenue improvement.
Assist managers with budget development, financialreporting, and performance analysis.
Develop a strong understanding of resort operationsto provide meaningful financial support and recommendations.
Leadership & Team Development
Supervise, coach, and develop accounting teammembers to achieve departmental goals and service excellence.
Promote a collaborative, accountable, andhigh-performing finance culture.
Support recruitment, onboarding, training,performance management, and employee development initiatives.
Encourage continuous improvement through processoptimization and best practices.
Provide leadership coverage and support to theController and Finance department as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, BusinessAdministration, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting andfinance experience.
Previous supervisory or team leadership experiencerequired.
Experience within hospitality, hotel, resort, golf,gaming, or other service-based industries is considered a strong asset.
Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting,forecasting, internal controls, and accounting principles.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel andexperience with financial management/accounting systems.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving,organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meetdeadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced operational setting.
Strong attention to detail with a commitment toaccuracy and confidentiality.
