About the role

Reporting to the Managing Partner, Growth Venture Fund, the Associate will contribute to all aspects of the investment lifecycle including origination, due diligence, transaction execution and portfolio management. The role involves a significant amount of analytical work as well as preparing investment memos for the Investment Committee. You will also participate in board meetings and strategic initiatives with portfolio companies.

BDC Capital’s Growth Venture Fund

BDC Capital’s Growth Venture Fund invests in later-stage, high-growth, innovative Canadian companies that are seeking capital to scale operations, expand product lines, or pursue market expansion. The fund invests between $5M and $20M in companies that demonstrate strong leadership, robust business models, and significant market potential. The fund is sector-agnostic, with a focus on deep tech, health tech, fintech and enterprise software.

What you bring to the role

You are highly collaborative, have a demonstrated passion for technology, and a solid understanding of the VC/PE investment process. You are highly analytical, a strong communicator, results-oriented, well-organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The challenge of this role is to:

1. Source new investment opportunities in line with fund mandate;
2. Build strong relationships with relevant stakeholders in the Canadian VC ecosystem (other VCs, entrepreneurs, advisors, etc.);
3. Perform financial analysis (including complex financial modeling and valuation);
4. Perform due diligence on investment opportunities, including market, technology, competitive, and management team analysis;
5. Prepare investment memos and presentations to Investment Committee;
6.



Participate in transaction structuring and negotiation of terms;
7. Actively monitor portfolio companies performance and industry trends;
8. Support portfolio companies with strategic and operational initiatives.

Skills and aptitudes

1. Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree (MBA) or CFA designation is an asset.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, or corporate development, with a focus on technology companies.
3. Demonstrated ability to source, evaluate, and execute complex investment transactions.
4. Strong financial modeling, valuation, and analytical skills.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; French is an asset.
6. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
7. Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships.
8. Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive and results-oriented approach.
