About the role Mechanical Engineer at Protocase. Protocase is seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to join our innovative team in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of projects that involve designing and developing custom enclosures and components for electronic applications. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and functionality. What you'll do Design and develop mechanical components and systems for custom electronic enclosures, ensuring they meet both functional and aesthetic requirements.
Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, product managers, and manufacturing teams to create comprehensive design solutions that address customer needs.
Conduct thorough analyses and simulations to validate designs, using tools such as CAD software and finite element analysis (FEA).
Participate in prototype development, testing, and iteration processes to refine designs based on performance feedback.
Prepare detailed technical documentation, including specifications, assembly instructions, and maintenance guidelines for manufactured products.
Engage in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying areas for design optimization and implementing best practices in engineering processes.
Support the manufacturing team during the production phase,



providing technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance as needed.
Stay updated with industry trends, materials, and technologies to ensure Protocase remains at the forefront of innovation in mechanical design.
Mentor junior engineers and interns, sharing knowledge and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
Participate in project planning and management, ensuring that timelines and budgets are adhered to while maintaining high-quality standards.
Conduct regular reviews of existing designs to identify opportunities for enhancements or cost reductions.
Communicate effectively with clients to understand their requirements and provide technical insights throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in the electronics or manufacturing sector.
Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD for creating detailed design models and drawings.
Strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes relevant to mechanical engineering.
Experience with FEA and other simulation tools to analyze and validate design performance.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.
Strong communication skills,



both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members and clients.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining attention to detail.
A proactive attitude towards learning and adapting to new technologies and methodologies.
Nice to have Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and technologies, such as 3D printing.
Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to mechanical design and product safety.
Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and their application in product design.
Previous experience in a fast-paced, customer-focused engineering environment.
Certification as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or equivalent is a plus.
Skills & tools Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
Familiarity with FEA tools (ANSYS, COMSOL)
Strong analytical and mathematical skills
Excellent project management capabilities
Knowledge of manufacturing processes (CNC machining, injection molding, etc.)
Effective communication and teamwork skills
