Visiting Medical Officer – General Practitioner – Anaesthetics

Responsibilities

The Visiting Medical Officer – General Practice Anaesthetics is required to provide contemporary comprehensive specialist services at Griffith Base Hospital. The VMO will provide a high level of clinical care to patients and participate in the on-call roster. The role includes participation in service and policy development, education, training and quality projects activities.

Location

Griffith Base Hospital is a 119-bed facility with 100 hospital care beds and 10 maternity beds. Each year the hospital supports approximately 19,500 emergency presentations, 2,500 operations and 600 births.

Selection Criteria

- Holds registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist General Practitioner.
- Experience and formal recognition as a Procedural General Practitioner with advanced skills and accreditation with the Joint Consultative Committee on Anaesthesia (JCCA) or equivalent.
- Minimum three (3) years postgraduate clinical experience. Prior experience in Emergency Medicine, General Practice, Adult Internal Medicine,



Paediatrics or Rural Medicine is an advantage.
- Knowledge of contemporary clinical management and modern approaches to the assessment and management of a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions. Competence in performing a range of minor urgent procedures commonly undertaken in a rural emergency department including Advanced Life Support and Trauma management.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster and respond on site within a reasonable time.
- Demonstrated commitment to behaviours that align with NSW Health CORE values and MLHD Values, goals and strategies.
