Volunteer Board Member – Finance Director

Rayjon Share Care | Sarnia-Lambton (Hybrid – Open to Remote Candidates)

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced volunteer to join our Board of Directors as Finance Director.

About the Role

The Finance Director is a vital member of Rayjon's Board of Directors, providing financial leadership and oversight to ensure the long-term sustainability and integrity of the organization. Working closely with the Executive Director and fellow board members, the Finance Director helps guide sound financial decision‑making that directly supports our partners and communities in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

The Finance Director volunteer role requires approximately 10-15 hours per month, which includes board meetings, committee work, and independent financial review. All board meetings are held in a hybrid format, making this position fully accessible to candidates outside of the Sarnia‑Lambton region.

Duties

- Financial Oversight: Monitor the organization’s financial health, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and accountability in all financial matters
- Budgeting: Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the Executive Director and board, ensuring resources are aligned with Rayjon’s strategic priorities
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and present regular financial reports to the board, summarizing the organization’s financial position in a clear and accessible way
- Audit & Compliance: Oversee the annual audit process and ensure the organization remains compliant with CRA requirements and all relevant Canadian non‑profit financial regulations
- Policy & Controls:



Review and recommend financial policies and internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets and support sound long‑term decision‑making

Required Qualifications

- Demonstrated experience in financial management, budgeting, and financial reporting
- Ability to read, interpret and present financial statements clearly
- Familiarity with non‑profit financial regulations and reporting requirements in Canada
- Familiarity with CRA requirements for registered charities
- Robust integrity and commitment to fiduciary responsibility
- Ability to attend monthly hybrid board meetings on a regular basis

Preferred Qualifications

- Professional accounting designation
- Experience serving on a non‑profit or charitable board
- Experience with international development or humanitarian organizations
- Familiarity with multi‑currency financial management (given operations in Haiti and the Dominican Republic)
- Experience with financial audits and working with external auditors
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, CRMs)
