About the Prospect
Reporting to the Manager, Surveillance and Data Solutions, the Epidemiologist leads the development of high-quality surveillance systems for the Public Health system of Nova Scotia including Health Protection, Healthy Communities and Early Years areas of focus.
They provide expert advice and leadership in epidemiology and surveillance and provide statistical and epidemiological analysis of public health and population health data to support health research, decision making, planning and policy development and administration. The Epidemiologist assists in the identification and evaluation of issues that threaten the health of Nova Scotians, and advances the epidemiological and surveillance decision support, information management and knowledge translation functions for the Public Health system.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
Master’s degree in Epidemiology (e.g. MSc, MPH) and 5-7 years' related experience in a Public Health setting
Eligible for registration with relevant health discipline/college or association, where applicable
Thorough understanding of population health and epidemiological principles
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)
Strong analytical skills
Demonstrated skills in advanced research methodologies and statistical analysis
Demonstrated experience providing epidemiological advice to senior decision makers
Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams
Demonstrated problem solving skills
Project management skills to manage multiple/conflicting deadlines and priorities
Advanced knowledge of statistical and analytical software (specifically R and SAS or Stata);proficiency in general word processing (Word)
and the development and maintenance of spreadsheets (Excel); and familiarity with presentation software
Experience with data visualization tools/softwaresuch as Tableau, GIS (mapping) andGephi (social network analysis) is considered an asset
Knowledge of the Public Health system in Nova Scotia
Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
Long assignment, full-time position; 75 hours biweekly

Compensation and Benefits
Pay Scale Type: Non-Union
Band: EPI02
Hourly Rate: $47.51 - $58.20 Hourly
Annual Salary: $92,644 - $113,490
