Senior Surveyor at Binnie. About the role Binnie is seeking an experienced Senior Surveyor to join our agile team in Victoria, British Columbia. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity for a professional with a strong background in surveying to contribute to a variety of projects. As a Senior Surveyor, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of surveying work, collaborating closely with engineers and project managers to deliver exceptional results. Your expertise will be vital in guiding junior staff and enhancing our surveying practices.

What you'll do Lead and manage surveying projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.
Conduct detailed land surveys, including boundary, topographic, and construction surveys, utilizing advanced surveying equipment and software.
Collaborate with engineers and architects to provide accurate data for project planning and design.
Review and analyze survey data, preparing comprehensive reports and documentation for stakeholders.
Mentor and train junior surveyors and technicians, fostering their professional development and ensuring high-quality work standards.
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and best practices in surveying.
Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to address any project-related inquiries or issues.
Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other surveying technologies to enhance project efficiency and accuracy.
Perform fieldwork as necessary, including site visits and inspections, to verify survey data and project progress.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and regulations to continuously improve surveying practices.
Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet project objectives.
Participate in project meetings, providing expert input and recommendations based on survey findings and analyses.
Requirements A degree in Geomatics, Surveying, or a related field.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in land surveying, with a focus on civil engineering projects.
Professional designation as a Registered Land Surveyor (RLS) or equivalent certification.
Proficiency in using modern surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS, and laser scanners.
Strong knowledge of surveying software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS applications.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Nice to have Experience with project management and familiarity with construction processes.
Knowledge of environmental regulations and land use policies in British Columbia.
Familiarity with drone surveying technology and its applications in land surveying.
Previous experience in mentoring or training junior staff.
Membership in professional organizations related to surveying or geomatics.
Skills & tools Proficient in surveying software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS tools.
Skilled in using surveying instruments like total stations, GPS units, and laser scanners.
Strong understanding of land surveying principles, techniques, and regulations.
Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Effective communication skills, enabling collaboration with various stakeholders.
Practical notes This position is based in Victoria, British Columbia, and may require occasional travel to project sites.
