Hoop N' Jam Corp. is an Ottawa-based youth programming company grounded in three pillars: Education, Social Awareness, and Fun. We're expanding our community partnerships, including workshops with First Nations communities in Northern Ontario.
About the Role
We're looking for a reliable, personable facilitator to travel to Missanabie Cree First Nation to run a full-day youth mental health and wellness workshop for children and youth of various ages. The program centers on mental health education and social awareness, with movement and activity — including the role sports can play in wellbeing — woven in as a supporting theme. This is an indoor/outdoor program (no gym available) using portable equipment such as parachutes, cones, and soft balls.
Responsibilities
- Drive to Missanabie Cree First Nation (approx. 10 hours from Ottawa) the day before the event and stay overnight at the provided hotel
- Facilitate workshop sessions from 9:00 AM–3:30 PM on the event day, adapting content and activities for a range of ages
- Deliver mental health and wellness content in a way that is respectful, age-appropriate, and community-informed
- Lead supporting movement/activity breaks using portable equipment, connecting them to the day's wellness themes
- Set up and pack down equipment for indoor/outdoor sessions
- Represent the Hoop N' Jam brand professionally throughout the visit
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with children/youth in education, recreation, or mental health/wellness settings
- Comfort speaking about mental health and wellness topics with young people of different ages
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel long distance, including an overnight stay
- Robust communication and adaptability skills
- Experience or interest in working with First Nations communities considered an asset
