Overview

The Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine at Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) is seeking 15 full‑time General Internists to join their team. The General Internal Medicine service is growing and will include the following:

- 24/7 Hospital and ER Consultation service
- 70 Inpatient Internal Medicine Beds
- Robust perioperative medicine service
- Clinical teaching for UBC trainees of all levels
- Outpatient Rapid Access Internal Medicine, Hypertension, Pre‑operative medicine and Thrombosis clinics

Responsibilities

The successful candidate should have a strong interest in inpatient and ambulatory care with an emphasis on perioperative medicine, hypertension, patient safety, quality improvement, or medical education. Responsibilities will include a combination of clinical care, teaching, and quality improvement, with the mix depending on the candidate’s background and job profile.

The role requires excellent clinical, communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills to collaborate with other physicians, learners, hospital staff, and administrators.



Applicants must be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, licensed (or eligible for licensure) in British Columbia, and hold MD qualifications.

Advanced methodological training (Master’s, Doctoral, or equivalent) may be preferred.

Internists will work with a cooperative group focused on critical care, hypertension, healthcare administration, thrombosis, and teaching. Educational rounds, morbidity and mortality rounds, and UBC undergraduate and postgraduate teaching are integral parts of the program.

ICU and cardiology patients are managed by separate programs.

Qualifications

- Hold an FRCPC registration
- Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of BC – Full or Provisional
- CPSBC USA certified registration is acceptable

Compensation

Compensation is a combination of fee‑for‑service and alternate payment. Compensation type: fee‑for‑service.
