Journeyman Service Electrician
Location: Lamont and Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta
Job type: Full-time, typically 32–44 hours per week
Compensation: Negotiable based on experience
About e‑MCi
e‑MCi is a locally based equipment and facility service company supporting customers throughout Lamont, Fort Saskatchewan and Alberta’s Industrial Heartland. We provide electrical construction, maintenance, troubleshooting and technical services for industrial, commercial, institutional and agricultural clients.
We are seeking an experienced Journeyman Electrician who enjoys troubleshooting, working independently and solving technical problems in the field.
Service Area and Travel
Applicants should live in or near Lamont, Fort Saskatchewan, Bruderheim, Redwater, Vegreville, Sherwood Park or the surrounding area.
Most work is performed within approximately a one-hour driving radius of Lamont and Fort Saskatchewan, primarily east and northeast of Edmonton. Employees must be able to travel directly to customer facilities and jobsites throughout this service area.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant may perform:
- Electrical troubleshooting and repair of industrial and commercial equipment
- Diagnosis of control circuits, power disruptions and electrical end devices
- Troubleshooting of PLC-controlled and automated equipment
- Facility electrical maintenance and emergency service work
- Motor control, contactor, overload, breaker and MCC work
- Installation and repair of motors, heaters, transformers and generators
- Electrical panel and service upgrades
- New electrical construction, renovations and design-build projects
- Lighting installations and LED retrofits
- Heat-trace installation, testing and repair
- Building-control and HVAC wiring
- Cable tray, conduit, grounding and equipment-bonding installations
- Data, telephone, security and communication cabling
- Agricultural equipment and conveying-system repairs
- Hazardous-location and explosion-proof electrical installations
- Preparation of service reports, turnover documentation and quality-control records
Qualifications
- Alberta Journeyman Electrician certification
- Strong service and electrical troubleshooting experience
- Demonstrated experience with control circuits, motors and automated equipment
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics and the Canadian Electrical Code
- Ability to work independently and communicate professionally with customers
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation to jobsites
- Own standard electrician’s hand tools
- Ability to provide references confirming relevant experience
- Commitment to safe work practices and proper documentation
Experience with PLCs, industrial controls, MCCs, generators, medium-voltage equipment or hazardous locations is an asset.
Current CSTS/PST, WHMIS, First Aid, aerial-work-platform, fall-protection or rough-terrain-forklift training would also be considered an asset.
Physical and Working Requirements
This position involves field service in active industrial, commercial and agricultural environments. Applicants must be able to:
- Work safely from ladders, aerial platforms and elevated structures
- Climb vertical ladders and work at heights
- Hoist tools and materials to elevated work areas
- Lift and carry electrical tools, cable and equipment
- Work indoors and outdoors in changing Alberta weather
- Follow customer-specific safety, security and site-access requirements
Schedule
Work normally averages 32–44 hours per week, with very little overtime. Some schedule flexibility or occasional after-hours response may be required depending on customer needs.
