Job Summary:

The Senior Designer is responsible for leading the design and development of hydraulic and mechanical systems for heavy-duty mobile equipment from concept through production. This role develops innovative, reliable, and manufacturable designs while supporting continuous improvement initiatives, prototype builds, testing, and production. Working closely with Manufacturing, Production, Service, Sales, Purchasing, and Quality, the Senior Designer provides advanced technical expertise to resolve complex engineering challenges and improve product performance. The position also mentors and supports other designers by sharing technical knowledge, design best practices, and engineering standards. Success in this role requires extensive experience in hydraulic systems, structural design, 3D CAD, and heavy equipment design, along with a strong focus on quality, safety, and manufacturability.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:





- Lead the design and development of hydraulic systems for heavy-duty mobile equipment, ensuring performance, reliability, safety, and serviceability.
- Design and develop new products from concept through production, including 3D CAD modeling, calculations, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Support continuous improvement of existing products through design updates, cost reduction initiatives, quality improvements, and field-driven enhancements.
- Provide advanced technical support and troubleshooting for complex hydraulic, mechanical, and structural design challenges across the engineering team.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, assembly, service, and field personnel to resolve production issues and improve product manufacturability.
- Participate in prototype builds, testing, and commissioning, working directly with shop personnel to validate designs and implement improvements.
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to improve product quality, simplify fabrication and assembly, and reduce production costs.
- Design structural components and assemblies using sound design principles, considering load paths, fatigue, durability, and field operating conditions.
- Develop hydraulic schematics, system layouts, hose routing, and component integration while ensuring ease of maintenance and service access.
- Perform calculations and technical analysis to validate mechanical and structural designs.
- Conduct design reviews and mentor other designers by providing guidance on best practices, hydraulic systems, manufacturability, and standards.
- Support cross-functional teams including Sales, Production, Purchasing,



and Quality throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Investigate field issues and customer feedback, identifying root causes and implementing effective engineering solutions.
- Maintain accurate documentation, Bills of Materials (BOMs), revision control, and product configuration records.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company practices.

Requirements:

- 10+ years of mechanical design experience in heavy equipment, mobile equipment, mining, construction, drilling, or similar industries.
- Extensive experience designing hydraulic systems for mobile equipment.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, filtration, cooling, and control systems.
- Proven experience in heavy equipment structural design, welded fabrications, and steel structures.
- Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Experience supporting prototype builds, product testing, and design validation.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent).
- Experience creating detailed manufacturing drawings and welding standards.
- Strong understanding of fabrication, machining, welding, and assembly processes.
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.
- Ability to mentor junior designers and provide technical leadership within a collaborative engineering environment.
- Reliable transportation for getting to and from work
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Wage: $40-$50

Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour
