Job Overview
We're hiring an experienced Skid Steer Operator to support our civil construction, landscaping, site development, and winter operations. This role requires confidence operating skid steers in a variety of environments, with a strong focus on backfilling, grading, material handling, trailer loading and unloading, landscaping, supporting screw pile operations, and commercial snow removal during the winter months.
The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and capable of working independently while maintaining productivity on busy construction sites. Experience working around other trades and operating multiple skid steer attachments is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Operate skid steers safely and efficiently for:
- Backfilling foundations, trenches, and utility installations
- Loading and unloading equipment, materials, and attachments from trailers
- Site grading, rough grading, and final preparation
- Landscaping and site cleanup
- Material handling using buckets, pallet forks, grapples, augers, snow pushers, sweepers, and other attachments
- Assisting screw pile crews by transporting materials and maintaining work areas
- Commercial snow removal, snow hauling, and winter site maintenance
- General site maintenance and cleanup
Additional responsibilities include:
- Perform daily equipment inspections and pre-trip checks
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and report maintenance concerns
- Work closely with foremen and other operators to keep projects on schedule
- Follow site plans, grade stakes, and supervisor direction
- Complete daily logs and timesheets accurately
- Assist with labour tasks when equipment operation is not required
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow all company safety policies and site-specific procedures
Qualifications
- 3+ years of skid steer operating experience in construction, civil, landscaping, or commercial snow removal
- Experience with backfilling around foundations, utilities, and excavations
- Experience loading and unloading trailers safely
- Experience performing rough and finish grading
- Experience supporting landscaping or site development projects
- Experience working around screw pile installations is considered a strong asset
- Ability to operate a wide variety of skid steer attachments
- Solid awareness of underground and overhead hazards
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (Class 3 is an asset)
- Safety tickets such as:
- CSTS
- Standard First Aid
- Ground Disturbance Level II
- Skid Steer Operator Certification (asset)
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Reliable transportation to and from job sites
