Netsanak Wekowaw - My Siblings Home
Canada
Job Overview
Netsanak Wekowaw is seeking a proactive, skilled, and reliable Facilities & Maintenance Specialist to oversee the upkeep of our residential homes. In this role, you will be directly responsible for ensuring our facilities remain safe, functional, warm, and welcoming for the children and youth we serve.
This is a hands-on position requiring a strong "handyperson" skillset. You will handle everyday household repairs, indoor and outdoor seasonal maintenance, and occasional home improvement or renovation projects. Because our residential homes are located in both Wabasca and Edmonton, a willingness to commute and travel between sites is essential (with primary preference given to candidates based in Wabasca).
Key Responsibilities
General Home Upkeep & Repairs
- Perform routine interior and exterior household repairs (e.g., drywall patching, painting, basic plumbing fixes, minor carpentry, door/hardware adjustments).
- Inspect homes regularly to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, or necessary upgrades.
- Handle basic seasonal outdoor maintenance, including minor yard care, safety checks, and exterior home repairs.
Minor Renovations & Improvement Projects
- Execute small-scale home renovation projects, upgrades, and room refreshes as needed.
- Source, track, and manage tools, basic materials, and supplies efficiently.
- Read basic repair guides or assembly instructions to safely install equipment, furniture, or fixtures.
Facility Safety & Multi-Site Travel
- Travel regularly between assigned homes in Wabasca and Edmonton to complete scheduled maintenance and address urgent repair requests.
- Ensure all work complies with basic home safety standards and provincial residential safety codes.
- Coordinate with external contractors or specialized trades (e.g., certified electricians, HVAC, major plumbing) when specialized work is required.
Skills & Qualifications
- Practical Experience: Proven hands-on experience in residential maintenance, general carpentry, basic plumbing, or home renovation work.
- Versatile "Handy" Skillset: Strong practical problem-solving skills with the ability to safely use standard power and hand tools.
- Mobility & Travel: Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation. Ability and willingness to travel regularly between Wabasca and Edmonton.
- Independence: Comfortable working independently, prioritizing tasks across multiple properties, and managing time efficiently.
- Communication & Safety: Clear communication skills, a respectful demeanour when working around residential staff and youth, and a strict commitment to maintaining a safe home environment.
Requirements & Clearances
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a clean Driver’s Abstract are strictly required for this position.
- Standard First Aid (or willingness to obtain).
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Record Check (due to working around residential care facilities).
How to Apply
If you take pride in keeping homes in top shape and want to support an organization making a real difference in the community, please submit your resume outlining your relevant trade or handyman experience.
Netsanak Wekowaw is an equal prospect employer. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
Pay: $28.00-$32.00 per hour
