Hillcrest Elementary Out of School Care Society (HEOSC) is seeking two caring, patient, and reliable Supported Child Development (SCD) Workers to provide additional support to a children participating in our licensed Out of School Care program.

This role focuses on promoting each child's successful participation in daily activities while encouraging independence, inclusion, and positive relationships with peers.

Responsibilities

- Provide individualized support during indoor and outdoor activities.
- Assist the child in participating safely and successfully in routines, games, crafts, and group activities.
- Encourage independence while providing assistance as needed.
- Support positive social interactions with peers.
- Work collaboratively with the Program Manager and Supervisor to implement support strategies.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and communicate regularly with the management team.
- Ensure the child's safety while following HEOSC policies and licensing requirements.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding children's progress

Qualifications

- 19 years of age (minimum) - required
- 20 hours of certified training or learning in a child-related field (ex. nutrition, child development, responsible adult course) - required
- Valid first aid certificate (or willingness to obtain one as soon as possible)
- Experience working with children is required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience and compassion when dealing with children

Hours of work:

SCD 1: Monday - Friday 2:00pm - 4:30pm (2.5 hour shift), possible full day for Pro-D Camp.

SCD 2: Monday,



Tuesday, and Friday 2:00 - 5:30 (3.5 hour shift)

General Information

We are a licensed out-of-school care offering before and after-school care to children from Kindergarten to Grade 5. We are located within Hillcrest Elementary and on the Hillcrest school grounds.

A Day in the Life

Each afternoon, you can expect to start your day at a slow pace, readying crafts and games for the afternoon. When the bell rings, we begin program with the kids with circle or carpet time, followed by various stations that you have set up (building blocks, puzzles, dolls, snack, etc.). Between 3:30 and 3:50pm, we all head outside for fresh air, free playground play, or a structured game! At 4:30, we head inside for a quick cleanup of the day's activities. The day ends at 5:15pm.

During this time, you will be responsible for offering invisible support to the child on your case load. You will act as a regular OSC leader, however, when needed and appropriate, you will assist and guide your child so that they may participate in our program.
