Material Coordinator
About the Position
The Material Coordinator (Raw Material / Components) is responsible for ensuring the timely availability of raw materials and components required for production in an automotive manufacturing environment. This role focuses on demand planning, inventory control, supplier coordination, and production support to maintain optimal inventory levels while avoiding shortages or excess stock.

Key Responsibilities
Materials & Inventory Management
- Develop and maintain material requirements plans (MRP) based on production schedules, forecasts, and customer demand.
- Ensure timely procurement and delivery of raw materials and components to support uninterrupted production.
- Place purchase orders / release orders with Domestic and International Suppliers and perform accurate follow-up and confirmation, ensure prices and rates in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
- Purchase order and release order maintenance.
- Scheduling production jobs for semi-finished parts to meet customer demand.
- Monitor inventory levels and adjust planning parameters to optimize stock levels and minimize carrying costs.
- Collaborate with suppliers to confirm order quantities, delivery schedules, and resolve supply issues.
- Work with freight forwarder to create and confirm supplier shipments and deliveries.
- Maintain In-Transit report on incoming parts.
- Analyze demand variability and implement strategies to mitigate risks such as shortages or overstock.
- Maintain accurate system data to support inventory integrity and planning accuracy.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the Master Scheduler, and logistics to align material flow with operational needs.
- Manage engineering part changes and ensure accurate material phase-in/phase-out processes.
- Support new product launches by ensuring material readiness and supply continuity.
Process Improvement
- Maintain and work within the set performance indicators (KPIs) targets, for raw material and semi-finished inventory on hand.
- Apply an improvement-focused mindset to identify and implement opportunities to streamline planning and operational processes.
- Participate in special projects and assignments as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, or other related degree.
- 4-5 years previous scheduling, planning, or supply chain experience.
- 3+ work experience in Materials Management, Logistics, and Inventory Control.
- Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems (Plex ERP considered an asset)
- Knowledge of Just-in-Time (JIT) and lean manufacturing principles
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical and organizational skills, also experienced in lean methodology.
- Strong communication and supplier management skills.
- Experience working with international vendors.
- Results oriented focus and ability to take ownership to resolve issues.
- Flexibility and willingness to initiate change and lead change.
- High customer focus: ability to proactively identify and meet customer needs.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional groups to define and execute overall requirements.
- Ability to work well with all levels of management and employees.
- Familiarity in process documentation and improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of manufacturing experience in an automotive environment an asset.
- APICS certification (e.g., CPIM, CSCP)
Pay: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
