Pediatric Nurse (LPN/RPN/RN) providing overnight care for a child with SMA Type 1:
Right at Home is seeking an experienced, professional, and compassionate RN, RPN, or LPN to provide 1:1 overnight nursing care for a pediatric client in Toronto.
The client is a child diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1 who requires skilled nursing support, including tracheostomy and ventilator management, enteral feeding, medication administration, and respiratory care. This role is ideal for a nurse with pediatric complex-care experience who is committed to delivering safe, family-centered care in the home workplace.
Schedule: Saturday & Sunday Overnight Shifts

Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive pediatric nursing care for a child with SMA Type 1.
- Perform routine and emergency tracheostomy care and tracheostomy maintenance.
- Monitor and manage mechanical ventilation and respiratory equipment.
- Administer and monitor oxygen therapy as prescribed.
- Perform airway clearance and suctioning as required.
- Manage G-tube (gastrostomy tube) feedings, hydration, and medication administration.
- Administer prescribed medications and monitor for effectiveness and adverse reactions.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of respiratory status, vital signs, and overall condition.
- Assist with positioning, mobility,
and comfort measures to support respiratory function and prevent skin breakdown.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in the client's condition and medical emergencies.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with family members and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Adhere to infection prevention practices, safety protocols, and professional nursing standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience caring for pediatric clients with complex medical needs required.
- Previous experience with SMA Type 1, tracheostomy care, and ventilator-dependent clients strongly preferred.
- Experience with oxygen therapy, suctioning, enteral feeding, and G-tube management required.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently in a home-care setting while maintaining excellent communication with caregivers and the healthcare team.
License/Certification
- Current RN, RPN, or LPN license and registration in good standing with the CNO (required)
- Current CPR Certification and First Aid Training (required)
- 2-Step TB Test (required)
- Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) / Criminal Record Check (required)
COVID-19 Considerations
All nurses are required to wear a mask while providing client care. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided. Nurses must be up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations and provide proof of vaccination.
