Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Intermediate Teacher to inspire and support students in their educational journey. The purpose of this role is to plan for, deliver, and monitor educational services for Snaw-naw-as Community Members while adhering to the philosophy, goals, and mission statement of the Snaw-naw-as School's vision and goals document. The successful candidate will be an expert in implementing elementary education that incorporates current research based strategies and programs across the disciplines. The successful candidate will maintain skilled standards and confidentiality practices as well as an ability to be flexible in environments of a growing and developing school.

This position will start as a term position from August 31, 2026 to June 30, 2027. Review and extension of contract to a permanent, full-time position based on successful integration of our school's purpose based on the Snaw-naw-as vision, mission, and values document and will be reviewed at the end of the school year.

Responsibilities & Duties

- Utilize the BC curriculum and apply it to learning for intermediate grades
- Plan, prepare, and provide instruction according to the BC school curriculum
- Use of Indigenous ways of knowing and apply these teachings to BC curriculum
- Develop age appropriate lesson plans that scaffold for the diverse needs of the class
- Maintain attendance, encouraging regular presence of all students
- ImplementLand Based education
- Perform daily prep work ensuring a tidy classroom with enough materials, visual aids, displays, and school-based activities for the day
- Create on-going student assessment of and for learning
- Communicate student progress with families
- Collaborate with colleagues for the benefits of the school
- Maintain confidential student and teacher files
- Manage parent communications and learning updates that include examples of students learning

Diverse Learning Needs

- Build on child's identified stengths
- Support learning by implementing Independent Education Plans or learning profiles




- Ability to work positively and communicate with support staff and work together to create recommendations for student support such as Speech Language Therapy, OT, and/or Behaviour Intervention
- Report on child's changing needs and adjust learning plans when necessary
- Support students in learning communication skills and social/emotional strategies with both teachers and peers
- Support cultural and spiritual learning, including; singing, drumming, dance, language, land, and medicines through diverse methods
- Understand the child's diverse physical needs when playing and in transition times
- Implement physical inclusion strategies

Other Duties

- Create routine and general flow of the classroom, including; classroom expectations, routines, and set-up/tear-down of the classroom before and after instructional time
- Supervise all assigned outdoor time including yard time at recess
- Provide assistance to students in the case of injury or illness; performs assigned duties during fire/earthquake/lockdown drills and other emergency sitautions
- Follow current in-school and provincial guidelines and policies. E.g. Physical Restraint and Seclusion Guidelines
- Open communications with all staff members
- Carry out other assigned, comparable duties that are within the scope of knowledge and skills that are required for this job description

Qualifications

- Bachelor of Education is Required
- A focus on Elementary Level Education, preferred
- Teacher Regulation Branch Certification
- Minimum 1 year experiecne in teaching
- Experience working with Indigenous communities
- Stength-based and Trauma-Informed Practice training
- Ability to work with a SMART board and other related technologies
- Proficiency in the use of Windows-based computer applications, including; Excel, Word, and other standard computer applications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Knowledge of Snaw-naw-as and/or other First Nations communities in BC




- Skills in implementing and supporting the IEP goals and the classroom adaptations for the student's diverse learning
- Ability to positively engage student in classrom activities (even if modified)
- Knowledge of age/diverse learning, social, and emotional strategies
- Knowledge of inclusion principles
- Knowledge of conflict resolution methods
- Ability to use tact and diplomacy to obtain confidential and sensitive information from parents/guardians/other support staff
- Active listening and critical thinking skills
- Excellent oral and written communication and comprehension skills
- Ability to function independently and in a team environment
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills; ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
- Good knowledge of the vision and values of Nanoose First Nation and the Snaw-Naw-As community overall

Working Condition

The job duties and responsibilities of this position vary in complexity and often require interpretation. The busy work schedules associated with NFN and Snaw-Naw-As School require this position to be flexible in terms of tasks, some of which are urgent or time-sensitive in nature. The scope of the teacher's responsibilities are also diverse and mental stress may be a factor when dealing with student or employee related concerns.

* Physically able to work with students at their level (squatting, sitting, kneeling, and being able to move between floor, chair, standing, etc. Sufficient vision and hearing to perform related job duties. Able to operate and lift equipment on an occasional basis).

Monday to Friday

8:00am to 4:00pm (school hours: 8:45am to 2:30 pm)

Wage

Rate of Pay is dependent on TQS category and steps.

Pay: $60,832.00-$109,713.00 per year
