HOUSEKEEPING

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Wage: Negotiable

POSITION OVERVIEW

Housekeeping staff are dedicated, hard-working team players who help provide a welcoming atmosphere for Rath Eastlink Community Centre (RECC) members and guests.

Through routine cleaning of all areas of the facility—from restrooms and the arena bowl to the pool deck—Housekeeping staff ensure the facilities are clean and presentable for all users.

Housekeeping staff work independently much of the time and must be self-motivated, take initiative, and communicate effectively with teammates, supervisors, members, and guests.

All tasks must be completed with a focus on reducing risk, promoting safety, and following occupational health and safety standards, RECC policies, and safe-work practices. Maintenance concerns and safety hazards must be reported to the Housekeeping Coordinator or Operations staff, as appropriate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Risk Management

- Actively participate in risk reduction during every shift and maintain detailed knowledge of the RECC Emergency Response Plan.

- Perform routine facility safety checks during shifts. Identify concerns affecting users or staff, address hazards when appropriate, and promptly communicate unresolved needs to the Housekeeping Coordinator or Operations Team.

- Follow procedures for the safe use of all equipment, materials, tools, and chemical cleaners required for the position.

- Mix detergents according to the specifications provided on Safety Data Sheets.

- Follow all RECC occupational health and safety policies and actively promote safety among staff, members, and facility users.

- Respond to injuries and incidents according to your level of training, using all required protective and barrier equipment.

- Ensure all incident, accident,



and first-aid reports are forwarded to the Director of Operations within 24 hours.

Support Services

- Follow daily cleaning schedules, prioritizing urgent requests when required.

- Work efficiently to maximize the use of time and resources.

- Thoroughly clean change rooms, washrooms, foyers, the atrium, meeting rooms, and other public areas daily.

- Restock supplies in washrooms and supply closets as required.

- Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors, paying close attention to corners, cracks, and other small spaces.

- Collect and empty garbage and recycling from receptacles in rooms, washrooms, change rooms, and common areas.

- Regularly inspect and clean glass in all reachable areas of the facility.

- Wipe down walls as required.

- Ensure washrooms receive detailed cleaning.

- Remove fingerprints and dust throughout the facility.

- Deep-clean one change room each night according to the cleaning schedule.

- Help clean dressing rooms when Facility Operators are running behind.

- Deep-clean the dressing rooms daily.

- Assist Facility Operators with room and event setup and teardown when required and under the direction of the Housekeeping Coordinator or Director of Operations.

Administrative Responsibilities

- Submit requests for equipment and supplies to the Housekeeping Coordinator or Director of Operations.

- Accurately and objectively document incidents, accidents, safety concerns, and team issues, submitting reports promptly to the Housekeeping Coordinator or Director of Operations.





- Immediately report all staff injuries to the Director of Operations.

- Remain current on all new occupational health and safety, operational, and standard operating procedure policies.

- Participate in the annual review process.

- Perform other duties as assigned by the Housekeeping Coordinator or Director of Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

- A minimum of one year of janitorial experience in a public facility.

- Experience working with cleaning chemicals and equipment.

- Current WHMIS certification or willingness to obtain it.

- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

- Willingness to work additional hours during events or facility bookings.

- Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain it.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Ability to remain flexible in a fast-paced, multitasking environment.

- Ability to establish and maintain respectful, cooperative, and professional working relationships with RECC staff, members, and visitors.

- Ability to consistently follow occupational health and safety requirements and RECC policies and procedures.

- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Current Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks are mandatory conditions of employment. Both checks must be completed and submitted before training begins.

The wage offered will be based on the successful applicant’s previous experience, training, and certifications.
