Job description: Bookkeeper
We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Bookkeeper to maintain accurate accounting records, process accounts payable and receivable, run payroll, and support the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This role reports to and works closely with our senior finance lead, who oversees year-end and higher-level reporting. Prior bookkeeping experience is welcome but not required — we are happy to train the right person. The ideal candidate is trustworthy and discreet, strong with numbers, well organized, and able to work independently while meeting recurring deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate financial records, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger entries, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Process invoices, payments, and payroll in a timely manner.
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and intercompany reconciliations across multiple entities.
- Maintain and reconcile employee records, timesheets, benefits deductions, and vacation accruals.
- Assist with routine remittances and filings under the direction of the senior finance lead.
- Gather and organize supporting documentation for month-end and year-end close.
- Follow established bookkeeping processes and procedures, and suggest improvements where you see them.
- Manage relationships with vendors and customers regarding billing, collections, and payment inquiries.
- Provide supporting documentation and reports as requested by management.
Qualifications:
- Strong character, reliability, and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
- Comfort and accuracy with numbers, with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Willingness to learn and take direction, with a proactive approach to problem solving.
- Post-secondary coursework or a certificate in accounting or bookkeeping is ideal.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Experience with Spruce is an asset.
- Previous bookkeeping, AR/AP, or payroll experience is an asset but not required.
- Experience supporting multiple entities or in a manufacturing/distribution environment is an asset.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00-$30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
