The Opportunity

Kendrew is seeking an experienced Transportation Control Officer/ Dispatcher to coordinate and oversee trucking and transportation operations. Reporting to the Transportation Manager or General Manager, you will be responsible for dispatch planning, driver communication, fleet coordination, service monitoring, and resolving operational issues to ensure safe, efficient, and on-time deliveries.

Key Responsibilities

Dispatch & Transportation Coordination

- Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily transportation routes and dispatch activities.
- Assign drivers, trucks, trailers, and equipment to meet customer requirements and delivery schedules.
- Monitor driver availability, equipment capacity, and route efficiency to optimize daily operations.
- Ensure drivers receive complete trip information, including routes, customer instructions, load details, and required documentation.
- Track dispatched work throughout the day, including departures, arrivals, delays, completed deliveries, and outstanding service issues.

Fleet & Driver Management

- Coordinate daily truck, trailer, and driver assignments to maximize equipment utilization.
- Verify that assigned drivers are properly qualified and that equipment is safe, available, and compliant for service.
- Update dispatch records and maintain accurate fleet assignment information.
- Coordinate replacement equipment or alternative resources when operational issues arise.
- Ensure company vehicles, trailers, fuel cards, and other operational assets are properly controlled and accounted for.

Driver & Customer Communication





- Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers during daily operations.
- Provide timely dispatch instructions, route updates, and operational support.
- Maintain regular communication with drivers, customers, and carriers regarding delivery status and service updates.
- Coordinate with third-party carriers when required to meet customer commitments.
- Escalate operational issues and communicate service disruptions professionally and promptly.

Transportation Operations

- Monitor active deliveries using dispatch software, GPS, and transportation management systems.
- Respond quickly to delays, equipment issues, traffic disruptions, weather events, and customer concerns.
- Coordinate recovery plans, equipment substitutions, and route adjustments to minimize service interruptions.
- Support emergency response procedures and maintain clear communication during operational incidents.
- Prepare comprehensive shift handover notes to ensure continuity between dispatch teams.

Safety & Compliance

- Promote compliance with transportation regulations, company policies, and workplace safety standards.
- Verify vehicle inspection records and ensure reported defects are addressed before equipment is dispatched.
- Remove unsafe equipment from service until repairs or authorization have been completed.
- Protect confidential customer, employee, and operational information.
- Report safety concerns, policy violations, and operational risks to management.

Documentation & Reporting

- Maintain accurate dispatch records, trip documentation, proof of delivery, and operational logs.
- Ensure all transportation documentation is completed accurately and submitted on time.
- Reconcile completed deliveries and investigate missing documentation or billing discrepancies.
- Prepare operational reports on service performance, equipment utilization, on-time delivery, overtime, and other key performance metrics.
- Support investigations, customer inquiries, payroll reviews, audits,



and operational reporting as required.

Qualifications

- Minimum 3 years of experience in transportation dispatch, fleet coordination, logistics, or a similar role.
- Post-secondary education in Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Robust knowledge of trucking operations, dispatch procedures, routing, and transportation documentation.
- Experience using transportation management systems (TMS), dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, or telematics.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make decisions quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Knowledge of Ontario transportation regulations and Hours of Service requirements is an asset.
- Valid G driver's license is considered an asset.

Working Conditions

This is a full time, on-site position based in Woodbridge, Ontario. The role operates in a fast-paced transportation environment and may require shift work, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, and occasional on-call coverage. The position involves regular computer and telephone use, with occasional work in warehouse or yard environments. The successful candidate must be able to manage multiple priorities, respond to changing operational needs, and remain calm under pressure.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $58,000 - $65,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience.
