Support Worker – Sunshine After School Care Program

Location: Sunshine Preschool and Before & After School Care, North Vancouver.Job Type: Part-Time Hours: After School Program 16.75 hrs/week (Monday–Friday approx 2:45pm-5:45 pm)

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated Support Worker to join our After School Care Program. In this role, you will work collaboratively with Early Childhood Educators (ECEs, ECEA, Responsible Adults), families, and other professionals to provide individualized support for a child with extra needs. Your primary focus will be to promote the child's inclusion, participation, independence, and overall well-being while helping create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all children.

Key Responsibilities

l Work collaboratively with Early Childhood Educators and other team members to support the daily operation of the Before and After School Care Program.

l Provide one-to-one or small-group support to a child with extra needs, encouraging participation in all activities and routines.

l Implement individualized support strategies and plans based on the child's strengths, needs, and goals.

l Use positive behavior guidance, respectful communication, and evidence-informed strategies to encourage success and independence.

l Support the child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development through play and daily interactions.

l Strong English language skills are required,



including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with children, families, colleagues, and community professionals, as well as to complete accurate written documentation, incident reports, and daily records.

l Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills.

l Build positive, respectful relationships with children, families, school staff, therapists, and colleagues.

l Assist with transitions, snack time, personal care, mobility, and other daily routines while promoting dignity and independence.

l Monitor the child's emotional, behavioral, and physical well-being and respond appropriately to incidents or emergencies.

l Observe, document, and communicate the child's participation, progress, and any concerns with the Program Supervisor and relevant team members.

l Promote inclusive practices that enable meaningful participation alongside peers.

l Maintain accurate documentation and records in accordance with organizational policies.

l Ensure compliance with licensing regulations, health and safety standards, confidentiality requirements, and organizational policies.

l Help maintain a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming program environment.

l Participate in team meetings, training,



and professional development related to inclusive practices and supporting children with diverse needs.

l Report concerns regarding child safety or well-being in accordance with organizational policies and legal requirements.

Qualifications

l Education or experience in Early Childhood Education, Education Assistant, Child and Youth Care, Special Education, or a related field is preferred.

l Experience supporting children with diverse abilities or additional support needs is an asset.

l Knowledge of inclusive practices, positive behaviour support, and child development.

l Valid First Aid and CPR certification.

l Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector screening.

l Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.

l Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times.
