About the Program:
The PREP-PWD program is designed to support immigrants with disabilities and mental health concerns in overcoming barriers to employment. We provide holistic, client-centered services that focus on job readiness, skill-building, wraparound supports, and long-term career success.
The Role:
As a Career Practitioner, you will support immigrants who are unemployed or underemployed and experiencing physical disabilities or mental health concerns. You will guide them on their path to employment or further training, helping them develop realistic career action plans and access appropriate support services.
Working closely with workshop facilitators, job developers, and mental health professionals, the Career Practitioner will ensure clients have the tools, confidence, and resources needed to succeed in the Canadian labor market.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct intake, eligibility screening, and needs assessments for clients referred internally, externally, or self-referred.
- Facilitate one-on-one career counselling sessions using a collaborative action-planning approach to support employment goals.
- Encourage and support clients in attending the 10-day PREP-PWD workshop series focused on job search strategies, disability awareness, and mental health.
- Provide ongoing case management, including regular client follow-ups, reassessments, referrals, and job search support.
- Collaborate with job developers to assist clients in accessing job placements, training opportunities, employment support, and work exposure activities.
- Work alongside the Mental Health Counsellor to address and accommodate clients’ mental health or disability-related needs in their employment journey.
- Enter and maintain accurate,
up-to-date client information in internal Excel tracking sheets and the Government of Alberta’s COMPASS database.
- Conduct resume reviews, interview preparation, and job readiness coaching.
- Facilitate or support job search workshops, utilizing participatory techniques and labour market orientation.
- Participate in labour market research and support the design and improvement of programs/services.
- Occasionally support the CES team in organizing events and in assisting clients in the job search hub.
Qualifications:
Education:
- A University degree in a relevant field is required.
- A Career Development Certificate or CCDP designation is considered a strong asset.
Experience:
- Previous experience working with immigrants, persons with disabilities, or individuals with mental health concerns is essential.
- Demonstrated success in employment coaching, employer engagement, and labor market navigation.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, Google Drive, Zoom, MS Teams, and other digital tools.
- Experience or willing to train in client data management using tools such as Excel and government databases (e.g., COMPASS).
Communication:
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
- Ability to adapt communication styles to support clients with varying needs.
- Fluency in English is required.
Fluency in another language is a strong asset

Other Requirements:
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Pay: $28.00-$30.00 per hour

- Bachelor's Degree (required)
