Contents Technician
Contents Processing Centre (CPC) is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and detail-oriented Contents Technician to join our growing team.
Our team helps homeowners, businesses, property managers, and insurance customers recover from water damage, fire and smoke damage, mould, and other property-related losses.
As a Contents Technician, you will help clean and restore affected properties while carefully handling customers’ personal belongings. This position is well suited to someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in helping others, and can remain professional and empathetic during challenging situations.
Key Responsibilities
Duties may include:
- Fire and Smoke Damage Cleaning: Clean, deodorize, and sanitize areas and contents affected by fire, smoke, and soot, helping prepare the property for restoration and reconstruction
- Packing Personal Belongings: Carefully sort, pack, label, protect, and transport furniture, photographs, electronics, clothing, household goods, and other personal belongings
- Contents Cleaning and Restoration: Use appropriate cleaning methods and specialized equipment to restore items affected by fire, smoke, soot, water, mould, or other contaminants
- Documentation: Create detailed and accurate job records using contents-tracking software, photographs, inventories, notes, and mobile applications to support the services provided
- Non-Restorable Items: Identify, photograph, list, and document belongings that cannot be safely or economically restored
- Pack-Back and Resetting: Return cleaned belongings and reset items in the property using photographs and documentation from the original pack-out
- Customer Service: Treat homeowners and their belongings with care, patience, empathy, and respect throughout the restoration process
- Communication: Work closely with the content supervisor and other team members, provide regular progress updates, and professionally address homeowner questions, requests, or concerns
- Attention to Detail: Complete all cleaning, packing, inventory, and documentation tasks carefully and accurately
- Equipment and Work Areas: Operate specialized contents-cleaning equipment and keep vehicles, equipment, storage areas, and workspaces clean and organized
- General Restoration Assistance: Assist with equipment setup, site cleaning, and other related activities as required
- Follow all company health and safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment
Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
- A valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- The ability to successfully complete a criminal background check
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- A compassionate, friendly, and skilled approach when interacting with homeowners
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle delicate or sentimental items with care
- The ability to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently
- Good organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively with a content supervisor and other team members
- A positive attitude, dependable work ethic, and commitment to providing excellent service
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
- Availability to work occasional overtime and participate in after-hours emergency response
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be able to:
- Safely lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Move furniture, boxes, equipment,
and household contents
- Stand and perform physical work for a full eight-hour shift
- Bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and work in a variety of indoor environments
- Wear respirators and other required personal protective equipment when necessary
- Work in properties affected by fire, smoke, soot, water damage, mould, dust, or other restoration-related conditions
Preferred Experience
The following would be considered assets but are not required:
- Previous experience in cleaning, restoration, moving, packing, warehousing, construction, or a related field
- One to two years of experience in the cleaning or property-restoration industry
- Experience using an iPad or mobile job-management applications
- Experience with Encircle, PSA, or similar contents and restoration software
- IICRC certification
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Experience cleaning fire, smoke, soot, or water damaged properties and contents
Training will be provided to the right candidate. IICRC certification may be required as the employee progresses within the position.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday
- Eight-hour shifts
- Occasional evenings and weekends
- Overtime as required for emergency projects
