Foster Care/Adoption Worker – Foster Care

Full Time Opportunity – Bilingual Position

The Position:

The Foster Care/Adoption Worker is responsible for promoting permanency, safety and well being of children and youth in care through the successful assessment, monitoring, support and ongoing evaluations of foster and adoptive families. The position participates in the development and delivery of training programs such as PRIDE pre-service and in-service for foster, kinship and adoptive parents.

The Foster Care/Adoption Worker is a member of a team responsible for conducting SAFE assessments for applicants both related and non-related to a child, identifying risk and other factors that may impact on the safety of a child/youth placed and communicate the outcome of the assessment to the applicant.

The Foster/Adoption Worker may also be involved in helping with the development and actualization of the foster family recruitment plan.

The worker provides service to children and families within the legal framework of the Ontario Child, Youth and Family Services Act and related legislation, the Policies and Procedures of the Children’s Society of Ottawa and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services’ Foster Care Licensing. The incumbent is also required to maintain client records in accordance with Society and Ministry Standards including case notes, assessments and other required reports. The incumbent will be expected to work flexible hours in order to meet the requirements of the position.

Qualifications:

- MSW, BSW or Bachelor’s degree in a related field with relevant work experience;





- 2 years experience working with families and children;

- Training experience is an asset;

- Familiarity with all relevant legislation, regulations and standards related to Foster Care, Kinship and Adoption as well as the Society’s policies and procedures;

- Certification in SAFE (Structured Analysis Family Evaluation) and PRIDE (Parent Resource for Information Development and Education) is an asset for this position;

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the culture, history and current oppressions experienced by people related to gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation and then faced within the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities;

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the culture, history and current oppressions experienced by Indigenous peoples and racialized communities;

- Applies anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-indigenous racism and anti-heterosexism and anti-cissexism lenses to social problems.

- Excellent assessment and training skills;

- Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills;

- Excellent capacity to work independently as well within a team setting.

- Superior verbal and written communication skills in both French and English are required.
